No one is eating their own if their own is really their own

unlike democrats, republicans freely speak out against dissatisfaction with their party. We're going to miss those days, perhaps soon.

McCain may well finish the job of capping the republican party if he continues the gallantry and noblesse oblige of “reaching across the aisle”. Democrats like Reid an Pelosi are feral with a mob-boss mentality. Not prospects for partnership in rational bipartisanship for what is good for all America

Let’s first take care of the ‘barbarians at our door’ on NOV 4th, then we can take care of our own after that!

Exactly. Why is it that Liberals make sure they win power first, then force the party into alignment while Conservatives do the opposite.

"....John McCain, accusing him of deserting principle..."

Juan is not too clear on that whole principle thing.

Don’t forget if W. had his way, Harriet Meyers would be on the Supreme Court now. He had to be dragged kicking and screaming in to dropping her.

I would agree with the poster's general statement about fiscal irresponsibility, but I wonder if something else is going on here . . .

The doubling of our debt has had a devastating effect on our economy and our currency is quickly becoming worthless.

This statement is directly contradicted by fact. The U.S. dollar has weakened in recent years, but has actually strengthened considerably during the course of the ongoing banking/fiscal crisis. FYI -- this may be the single biggest factor in the steep decline in oil prices since mid-July.

I have no idea what this means for the long term, but there's something odd going on in the world's currency markets these days.

There are three men that are single-handedly responsible for the failure of Bush’s second term:

1) George W. Bush

2) John McCain

3) Trent Lott

McCain and Lott are also almost singlehandedly responsible for the 2006 bloodbath. Both of them actively worked against their own party and even conservatism in general, because of petty personal vendettas.

That said, it’s all water under the bridge now and nothing’s destroyed. Damaged? Sure. But not destroyed. It can be repaired.

I agree that President Bush destroyed the Republican Party...I cannot see how McCain, who isn't in charge yet, can be blamed.

Does the word 'amnesty' ring any bells?

He picked Palin.

Out of expediency, not out of principle.

I blame Bush the most - the buck stops with him. Leadership would have gone a long way toward weeding out the RINOs in the party. I love Dick Cheney, but at least in the second term, arrangements should have been made for him to step down & another made VP - to groom for the next presidency. Bush has left the GOP in shambles. And maybe that will turn out to be a GOOD thing in the long run. The party needs a complete housecleaning - and shrink the tent! If they can’t do that - then another party will most assuredly rise out of the ashes of the Republican party - because if they can’t get rid of the RINOs, they will die.

I have been anti-Bush since way back in September of '98; mainly because I've never considered the Bush clan one of "us". They are more like the Kennedys actually--North Eastern Yankee Country Club Republicans from the get-go beginning with old Prescott, on through to "Read My Lips" and hopefully ending the dynasty with carpetbagging Maine-bred "W" (for worse).
I believe the only mistake that Ronald Reagan ever made was naming GHWB his VEEP after he was criticized on about "Voodoo Economics" as the Bushes have proven time and again that they can start wars but cannot finish them, run up deficits, parrot lines about being "education presidents" but can't fix a failing national school system, molly-coddle democrats and far-left ideas, tolerate incompetence in their administrations, and pretend they are conservatives. At least with McCain you know what you're getting, and it's not a knife in the back!

Some moderate Republicans think McCain has sold his soul to the right, abandoning the bipartisan record he built on immigration and other issues. "He has lost his brand as a maverick," said Rep. Chris Shays, the last Republican congressman in New England, in a tight race in Connecticut again this year.

That's the problem, y'see. Republicans aren't liberal enough.

Under Bush's leadership, the national debt went from $5 trillion in 2001 to $10.5 trillion today.

Leadership?

> A gentle reminder that this house is conservative and not necessarily Republican. Partisans are welcomed as candidates for conversion to conservatism.

An even gentler reminder that the host of this house has publicly stated, as recently as this week, that his forum is McCain/Palin territory, and has encouraged all of his guests to pull hard for them. You may have missed that thread: JimRob was unequivocal in his views.

(For the record, I’m not a member of the GOP nor do I get to vote in your election. But I am a small-r-republican and a conservative and a fiercely-patriotic Kiwi who just voted National with both of my votes yesterday. And it matters a Hell of a lot to my country — and thus to me — who sits in your White House.)

Cheers mate

Nobody’s perfect, not even Ronald Reagan. All this proves is that the system works, and that GWB could be made to see Reason, ultimately.

And even so, Harriet Meyers would have been a much better choice than ANYBODY that Obama would nominate if he were to win.

I am only voting because of Sarah, without her this election was over before it got started. The list is a very long I could put forth regarding the denigration of conservative principles. HINT: daddy who claimed he cleaned out dirty money from political campaigns was well on display last night.... I need say no more.

Bush hanging on after 2006 election doomed republicans for at least one more election. If some republican must loose, I just assume it be liberal media sucking up phony McCain(I know, circle the wagons) . We have a terrible choice, unthinkable. A disaster like Obama that has all kings of terrible ideas, or try to keep republican white house hanging on like Bush did, with a guy we cant trust ,when the party (Bush as leader) has failed big time. The new leader McCain tried to claim in Sept he wasnt even a republican, didnt work. Now he is claiming he was against the Bush bailout (pointed out by Cavuto FNC yesterday) that he pushed on house republicans to vote for. Now his campaign finance ideas have hit him directly, true justice.

The party needs a cleaning out like in 1992-1994. This should have happened after 2006 but couldnt with Bush as leader.

On the bright (not very bright!) side, if a lib must win, let it be the worst. A Obama disaster might make people forget Bush, a huge task.
