I blame Bush the most - the buck stops with him. Leadership would have gone a long way toward weeding out the RINOs in the party. I love Dick Cheney, but at least in the second term, arrangements should have been made for him to step down & another made VP - to groom for the next presidency. Bush has left the GOP in shambles.
And maybe that will turn out to be a GOOD thing in the long run. The party needs a complete housecleaning - and shrink the tent! If they can’t do that - then another party will most assuredly rise out of the ashes of the Republican party - because if they can’t get rid of the RINOs, they will die.
My motto is NO MORE BUSHES.
Jeb may be the best of the lot, but too bad. We have learned enough from them.
I have been anti-Bush since way back in September of '98; mainly because I've never considered the Bush clan one of "us". They are more like the Kennedys actually--North Eastern Yankee Country Club Republicans from the get-go beginning with old Prescott, on through to "Read My Lips" and hopefully ending the dynasty with carpetbagging Maine-bred "W" (for worse).
I believe the only mistake that Ronald Reagan ever made was naming GHWB his VEEP after he was criticized on about "Voodoo Economics" as the Bushes have proven time and again that they can start wars but cannot finish them, run up deficits, parrot lines about being "education presidents" but can't fix a failing national school system, molly-coddle democrats and far-left ideas, tolerate incompetence in their administrations, and pretend they are conservatives. At least with McCain you know what you're getting, and it's not a knife in the back!
