Ditto - These San Fran uber Millionaires who pay through the nose for a house and life-style in CA turn around and condemn the rest of us to a life of socialism - they ought to not be patronized. I know many are against boycotts (very 60s) but it seems to me to be the only way a “little guy” can get a point across. Seems to be working in Dino-media and else where - maybe it will if we all abandon Google.

Reminder to self: Find an alternate search engine.

I want to get it off too... and will follow with a strong letter!

Keep hitting YouTube and putting money in this guy’s pocket, folks.

Here's lots of alternatives to Google offerings:

Live Search A high power alternative to Google
Search and Give Uses the Live search engine but you can set up an account so that a charity or school of your choosing gets a few cents every time you search!
Clusty Search This is an alterative that draws from several search engines including Google unfortunately
Live Toolbar Need a toolbar alternative, use this one
MSN Video An alternative to YouTube for hosting your uploaded videos
Live Maps Need driving directions, this will work (Though I'll concede Google has an extra feature that's nice)
Virtual Earth An excellent 3D mapping program
Live Mail
Live Mail Client
Plenty of space for all your email and a nice client for it as well!
Live Spaces A place to blog, host photos, store files, etc
Photosynth A very cool way of bringing dimensional perspective to your photographs

Please note that Ask.com and About.com are owned by the New York Times.

Top Ten Search Engines - Top 10 SEs

It seems the top self-powered search engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live, and Gigablast.

There are lot of others, of course, some of which were self-powered at one time. But they've pretty much all gone defunct, merged with one of the big players, or simply repackage results from one or more of the big players (so called meta-search). E.g., compare results from Ask with those from Google or results from AltaVista with those from Yahoo.

I used to use dogpile. It just wasn't as good as google even though google was/is one of the engines it uses.

Let me explain something to all these clymers who claim Chairman Milhouse is more technologically savvy than McCain: It was John McCain who led the fight against internet taxation from the start. For a guy who supposedly doesn’t know an email from an emu, that is way technologically savvy.

I agree, Google is the best and much more user friendly.

I really like the Autofill feature on its Toolbar.

Eric Schmidt was always a big Al Gore pal and supporter and in fact hired him as a consultant to Google after Gore left office. It’s unknown how many options Gore received but rumored to be a pile, which has made Gore a wealthy man.

So Schmidt’s support for Obama is no surprise.

Recall back in the early days of the Clinton administration that Apple, IBM and Sun Microsystems lobbied the Justice Department to go after Microsoft for allegedly being an evil, illegal monopoly (which to this day I find hard to believe because even back then you could use MacOS if you liked).

BZZZZZT. Wrong!

The anti-trust suit against Microsoft was started under Bush the Elder.

Microsoft is a monopoly and has used it's monopoly power illegaly. These are matters of fact and of legal findings.
