John McCain right choice for president

The American News endorses John McCain for president.

Clearly, this country is aching for change, and we think that McCain provides the right opportunity for a fundamental leadership change. McCain has demonstrated better than any other sitting senator an unabashed willingness to forge a path less taken. He eschews party politics and has found common ground with compatible colleagues countless times, regardless of party affiliation.

That kind of collaborative effort is what should be the rule in Congress; too often it is the exception.

Today, at this juncture of our country's history, we see McCain as a leader who can bridge the overwhelming partisan divide and achieve consensus that will grow America in a positive direction.

We don't see McCain so much as a Republican clone but rather as a proven leader who will govern with his innermost convictions. Some like to brand that as being a maverick; we call it just plain common sense, a quality that exists in too small of quantities in the political world.

Sen. Barack Obama has become a rock star, a wonderful, accomplished speaker. Words and the ability to deliver them with style can be inspiring and move people and a nation to greater achievement. But only if delivered by a true leader. We haven't seen much substance beyond the eloquence on the stump in Obama.

In his political tenure he has demonstrated only an ability to vote and march to party lines. There has been no demonstration of independent thought or legislation that attempts to better the system or better people's lives. Perhaps if elected, Obama will have an epiphany, but his past record does not point to any acumen in making a difference, something that is so important for America in 2009 and beyond.

All signs point to an overwhelming Democratic congressional victory on Tuesday. No harm in that, especially when recognizing the problems and dissatisfaction that many voters have assigned to Republicans. But we believe that the country exposed to a Democratic supermajority is no better answer than a Republican supermajority for delivering tangible progress for Americans.

Sen. Obama's campaign couches itself in the brand "Change we can believe in." What change? Sen. Obama and Sen. Joe Biden, his vice presidential candidate, are part of the system that got us to this place, just as Sen. McCain is. They all own a piece of this current mess.

Yet we believe that Sen. McCain has better demonstrated an ability to break down the partisanship of America, the blue vs. red state silliness. He shows a creative thought process laced with urgency of purpose, and, therefore, will make a historic positive difference in the future of the United States.

Aberdeen News with just 0.00000135092% of the tea leaves having not blown away, has just taken a courageous stand so that it’s readers can cast an informed vote. At least those who haven’t already cast an uninformed vote.

Evidently they think McCain is going to pull this out. Gotta get it on the record before the fact you know.
