I realize this is not scientific. But, I found it interesting. I drove from Dekalb, IL to Mount Carroll, IL to vote today. This is a distance of about 75 miles in northwestern Illinois. I counted 27 McCain signs and 24 Obama signs! I was surprised as this is not only Obama's state, but the RNC has not distributed McCain signs here. Republican organizations here have had to purchase signs and pass them out sparingly. Pretty much you have to know someone in the party to get a sign.
Lifted my spirits some and I hope it will yours also.
Last, I have noticed that about a fifth of the democrat party yard signs do not include Obama sign...
Glad to see you were provided a little hope. Unfortunately, that part of Illinois is not a part of the Cook County Democrat Fraud Machine which usually determines Illinois elections.
Thank you, but I think even the most die hard McCain supporter is willing to concede Ill. to Obama.
I am not suggesting McCain will win Illinois...

If strong Ds are 20% overtly not supporting O even in IL that is an excellent nugget. Of course you probably oversampled rural in that drive so can’t get too much from it.
In Illinois, you must check for signage in the graveyards ... ;)
We live in Rochelle. Hwy 251 through town is what we refer to as Democrat Row. The signs went up very late this season, and few of the homes are displaying signs. And best of all, of of the historically big Democrat backers has a McCain/Palin in the yard. Beyond that we’re seeing probable an equal number of both scattered around town.
Out here its Republican country for the most part. We share Burzynski and Pritchard with you in DeKalb/Sycamore, and congressman Don Manzullo. All good Republicans. We voted around 8 a.m. More people than usual, but we were late getting there so what we encountered may not be that unusual. NO on the constitutional convention. NO on Ogle County courthouse (the old one) being renevated and YES! on the concealed carry amendment. What was interesting, a number of state offices had only Republican office seekers. No Democrat, no Green, no nothing. It didn’t make a difference to me, but I thought that was unusual...
I believe there are many McCain/Palin voters who are afraid to have signs in their yards. I don’t blame them since the media is telling the O’s supporters to riot and burn and pillage if he loses.
While riding my bicycle through a very nice neighborhood in Ohio I also counted the signs. McCain won by one. Considering the money in this area I was really shocked.
I wasn't suggesting that you were.
In 04, kerry signs were like weeds here, everywhere you looked.
I’ve seen two obama signs in all my travels. And on my block there are 4 McCain signs.
Yes, I can understand the reluctance of putting out a McCain sign in certain areas.
I am actually in Mount Carroll, was visiting in Dekalb and drove back this morning to vote.
I also voted a big NO on the Constitutional Convention...last thing we need are the damn democrat bastards messing around and making the Illinois constitution more Soviet like than what it already is...
Wondering if you have noticed democrat yards without Obama signs? I have noticed quite a few out by us...
I commented last week about the lack of signs in my Democrat area. I found out that the Dems didn’t bother to put money into Illinois since they figure its a lock. They channeled the resources into the battleground states, like Indiana right next door. It has been an eerily quiet election period around here. As the late Mayor of Chicago Harold Washington would say, it’s “hubris....gone wild.”
In town, I'd say it's 50/50. That is, half the Democrat yards have Obama signs. Perhaps a little higher. Out in the country it's mostly Republican. Few Obama signs about. Also, the Democrat yards this year outnumber the McCain yards slightly, but I'm sure that's a fear of intimidation. It's never been that way before. Coupled with the fact there are far fewer signs from either party this year than in the past, I'm sure of it. And seldom do I see a bumper sticker...

Hear ye, hear ye. Same here. I’m about to go vote (live in DuPage County, IL, still a bastion of Republicanism, at least for the moment). Will vote a big fat NO on the Constitutional Convention. Luckily, there has been a lot of AD’s in my area by Jim Edgar, past Pub Gov of IL spreading the word to vote NO on the attempt to hold a constitutional convention and explaining how it is an attempt by the Dem majority in the Illinois legislature to grab more power and to get their hands on more money via consitutional changes. I think it will go down to resounding defeat. Well, off to vote go I, in the land of Obama, no longer the land of Lincoln, here in Illinois. But this too shall pass.
