The pro-life movement will never grow if we continue to lose the framing war and right now we are being framed as the idiot crazies who want to send women to the chair.

A very important point of note that more people need to take notice of. If you lose what you refer to as the 'framing war,' then you totally miss out on the ability to touch the voting public. Take something as simple as abortion ....most people, in their hearts, have qualms about it. It should be a simple issue for us to win. However, we have lost the war for minds in the issue. The framing war is so firmly against us, that even though many people may consider the unborn as human, they still cannot bring themselves to fully support the pro-life movement.

Think of it ...pro-choice is called that instead of pro-abortion. Pro-lifers are made out to be quasi-lunatics who are anti-women and all that jazz. Pro-choice is not seen as pro-abortion, but rather as giving each individual a choice of what to do with their bodies.

We have lost the framing war over and over again for many years now. The pro-life/choice thing is one of them. The economy is another. McCain was an obvious one on the 4th. Bush is a runnning joke when it comes to how one can lose the framing war.

The Left is not as zany as some here believe. Sure, there are real legit crackpots who believe radio-controlled aircraft ploughed into the WTC, but there is a very large sophisticated core that has a cold hard rational logic driving them. These are not the raving moonbats most people here try to make them to be ...they are not DUmmies ranting about fitzmas and all that stuff. Some while ago I was saying that we were risking being rope-a-doped following all these 'tantalising' stories coming out (e.g. Odinga, which is huge ....but come on people, as an African - a Kenyan - I can tell you that no one outside Africa cares about Africans! Close to a million people could have been slaughtered, like happened in Rwanda, with the only reaction from average Americans being a firm lips and shaking heads while sipping the morning coffee ...before flipping to Fox and Friends or the Morning Show). We need to recognize that there are some really dedicated people out there working hard to define the framing war in their favor, yet we have been seeing all Democrats to be the silly ranters over at DU.

We need to start defining ourselves, instead of having them define us and then trying to fight that definition (otherwise even if we fight it off, they will have come up with another one in its place by that time).

Look, someone like Obama just won the presidency, and he did not squeek by. He won (meaning that even with ACORN and all that, a lot of people still voted for him). It is all about the framing war ....he and his cronies were great at it, and it paid of.

A silly theory I had 2 weeks ago, that was largely quashed by other FReepers (with good points made by them) but one that still bothers me, is this assumption that Obama will wreck the economy and mess everything up. After all, that is what we expect from such an empty suit that is a marxist and what not. HOWEVER, I fear that the opposite may happen ...particularly if him and his backers select the most prudent course of action to take over the country. Instead of burning it down, work in the other direction. Implement policies that are pro-market (I know his campaign speeches said otherwise, but the guy has lied so many times going back on that means nothing). Doing so would basically imprint in the minds of voters that voting Democrat leads to good change. If the financial crisis lifts in a year and a half, and things are back to norm, Obama can easily claim credit for that. That would be what I would do ....as i said, why burn down your neighbor's porsche if you can take it over? Doing so would also have an added advantage of allowing them to slowly implement their leftist shunt across the entire country (better to slowly boil a frog in water rather than plunging the poor amphibian into a boiling pot).

Now, this was just a late night worry, but whether it is right or wrong it is still true that we need to stop seeing the Left as bumbling idiots. Many of them are, but there are a good number of them that have serious intent, have the mental and financial resources to fuel that intent, and have a lot of patience behind that intent.

If we continue to see them as 'just another DUmmie,' who we know there every action before they take it (hey, they are just going to tax tax tax, set up affirmative action, yada yada yada), then we expose ourselves to subtle shifts of strategy. THINK ABOUT IT GUYS ....THEY BASICALLY BLAMED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR THE FINANCIAL CRISIS, AND IT STUCK! That is what you people face when you continue to take the 'Clever Left' for granted, and continue to let them win the 'framing war.'

Continue to do that, and I assure you that electoral loses will be the least of your worries. You can save that and take it to the bank!

This election just vindicated the strategies of the Clever Left, and if you guys do nothing then you are finished. If you let the Clever Left elect the Republican Party nominee, you are lost from the beginning (have you ever wondered WHY McCain was the GOP nominee, even when conservatives in general did not want him. How the media really pushed for him then. How he was totally written off, and then came back from the dead? I find it so weird how 4 years ago the term 'Rovian Storm' was being used, with terms like rope-a-dope, yet people cannot see it being used against them???).

It is time for the Conservative base to re-work the GOP. Take out the RINOs (and especially the CINOs). Then WORK ON ENSURING YOU WIN THE FRAMING WAR! Also, communication and 'touching the public' is very important ....Bush was not a good communicator, but at least he was very good at touching the public ....McCain was neither. Palin appears to be good at both, but she got hit by the Clever Left's definition machine (again, framing war).

There are four years left, and I predict that Obama will not act like most of you expect. I predict that he will not be a total fool/tool running around headless. I expect that his 'handlers' will give him major assistance, and that some of the 'issues' facing us may abate significantly (apart from things like, say, Iran getting into a hot or hotter standoff with Israel). His popularity will obviously ebb, but I expect it to remain higher than most here expect it to be. And finally, when Biden told Obama's supporters to hang on tight during a testing/ a crisis, and not to lose faith, it could easily mean a JFK-style crisis (e.g. say Iran acts the fool) ....but personally I think it was different. I saw it as Biden telling them that some policies implemented by Obama may run counter to what he promised, and may run counter to what is 'traditionally' expected from 'silly Democrats.' Maybe ...policies that are pro-business and rattle the minds of the 'stupid left,' but which the Clever Left know are important to bring the country to its feet. And why would the Clever Left want to do such a 'patriotic' thing ....because by doing so they cement their hold on power, make the voters believe that a Democrat prez/congress is the best mix available, and give them an opportunity to slowly drip-drip their more stringent lefting ideologies over a longer time period (rather than risk a sudden smash of leftism over 4 years).

Again, I am probably wrong, but at least I am thinking out of the box and not disrespecting (yes, disrespecting) the enemy by thinking them total sots and fools. Hate the enemy, but never for a moment think they are fools (even when they are, lest they wake up morning and decide not to be fools).

(Anyways, back to normally scheduled programming. Democrats are all fools, and they just hang around DU talking about fitzmas. /sarc.)

If Obama has 8 years, it is conceivable that Scalia and Thomas may need replaced. Age wise, they are getting there. IF one of those perceived pro-life justices passes away or steps down, you won’t have the stacked court you have so longed to have.

still lost because we had blacks coming out of the wood work for a non white man
they are the racist ones

we had kid , some at high school voting to be popular, here in florida a school was bussing students from high school to the voting booth

we had college kids who looked at this as the American idol election
under obama they won’t get a job I hope, let them learn the hard way that there is consequences for their actions

that is why we lost along with many Rich American Jews who are just braindead thinking obama will help Israel

nearly forgot we lost too because illegal money poured in to get this fraud elected, money from Hamas etc

Sorry did not reply earlier because went to bed at 1am last night.
First of all if I gave impression to any of you that I am pro-abortion, let me make it clear I am against abortion on demand. There is nothing more vile than killing a baby who is quite capable of living on its own God given body for ANY reason.

Our difference lies in approach to achieving it. For abortion to become illegal, two things need to happen first. First, the overwhelming portion of voters need to be anti-abortion. The country is not there at this time. Second, we need a solid majority in congress, the SCOTUS and also our candidate in the White House. You won't get there by putting the cart before the horse. We have to be just as Machiavellian as the Dems in winning elections first. Any other approach will keep failing. We don't need to follow the definition of insanity (keep repeating the same procedure expecting different results). However I admire all your fervent dedication to this cause regardless of how fruitful the results are.

education is key.

pro-life people need to go INTO the republican clubs locally and put their candidates in.

THEY ALSO NEED TO GET A GRIP.

A viable candidate who supports SOME restrictions and parental notification is far superior to a one trick lunatic who is passing an unrealist litmus test.

EDUCATION IS THE KEYS TO VICTORY.

Changing laws and the system needs to be done at the same time as campaigns to draw more people onto the Right to Life team. The premise of waiting to change laws and the system until there is some sort of consensus is a false one.

And, if he only has four, it's possible that not even Kennedy will step down and Republican President in 2013 will have a chance to replace two liberal justices and Kennedy with conservative ones.

My guess is he’ll get 8. The economic cycle will be his friend.

Last night we got to talking about the USA’s abortion laws and how they compare to other countries. We are way out there.

Italy, Spain, Brazil, Poland, Ireland have in comparison stringent laws and one can read about that say beginning with this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_in_Italy

Abortion is wrong to me, period however, Planned Parenthood and others, we don’t have to look far, are really supporting an evil, even when comparing it to countries like Germany. Maybe even Holland requires a wait and they are way out there on the issues. The USA seems to have among the most extreme laws out there. I ponder whether those ignorantly defending abortion know this.

Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome?

Given that younger voters are more pro-life than older voters, one would think that might an issue to turn them away from Obama and the Democrats.

Secondly, polls nationwide have consistently shown 55-60% of the country in favor of banning abortion expect in rare cases.

In fact, just two years ago, Louisiana passed a bill banning abortion except in cases of the mother's life being endangered that was signed by then-Democratic governor Kathleen Blanco and would go into effect if Roe was overturned.

Economic cycles can’t withstand taxes increases on the rich or capital gains tax increases. So, unless Obama backs off that, which I doubt he will, he will be another Jimmy Carter.

Remember the economic upswing during Clinton, even after his tax increases?

That's is partly because Clinton cut the capital gains rate.

The only way abortions will stop is if you can change hearts and minds first.

That sounds real nice, but please tell me how you change hearts and minds when the federal government is on the other side telling you that abortion is a "right" protected by the Constitution? When you've got a large proportion of younger women who have had abortions and look for any excuse to alleviate their guilt, a Constitutional Right is a powerful salve.

Is this sarcasm? I ask because there was NO upswing in the economy after the tax increases, there was a definite slowing. The last quarter of Bush I's term grew somewhere between 3.5 - 4%. After Clinton pushed through his tax increases the growth went down somewhere near 1%. The growth occurred after the CWA and the Republican takeover.

And, Clinton was also prevented from raising taxes again after Republicans took control of Congress in 1995. A similar scenario is the only thing that can keep the economy afloat for Obama.

I’m sorry, education is not the answer.

People know it’s wrong, they just want it anyway.

I agree. For those who don’t know God and believe in Biblical truth, the “law” is all they know to judge the rightness of something, to them, if it is legal, it must be morally okay. The Supreme Court has put its powerful stamp of approval on abortion. If we wait around for people’s hearts to change before changing the laws, we will be waiting a long time.
