A Few Points to Ponder (all is vanity today)

Posted on 11/05/2008 5:50:24 AM PST by ClaudiusI

There really is no good news to post today, which is why I suspect there are so many vanities. So, when in Rome…

I’m not going to pretend that there is a silver lining to this; things would have been infinitely better if McCain had won. However, not all hope is lost.
Basically, I think this is what’s going to happen over the next couple of years.
- The fairness doctrine will get passed, in the Neue Kongress’s first 90 days. I think the best way to fight this is not to comply, hence forcing the government to attempt to enforce it. Marc Levine, being a constitutional lawyer, will become known nationwide as he fights to have the doctrine declared unconstitutional.
- While the Partisans will continue to fawn over Obama, there will be a great deal of buyer’s remorse as the “moderates” discover just who it was they elected to office. Our greatest advantage is Obama’s inexperience and rank stupidity. Once the people discover that he can’t do any of the things he’s claiming, his popularity will plummet.
- These repeated failures may carry a heavy price for the American people. When Mao and Pol Pot encountered such difficulties, they blamed the people instead of their own misguided policies. This lead to the cultural revolution, and “down to the countryside” movement in China; in Cambodia it lead to a holocaust. I don’t expect the results to be that dramatic, but the mentality is the same: a year from now, things are going to be worse, and Obama is going to be blaming the American people for it.
- Perhaps the greatest advantage we have right now is that Obama’s campaign strategy will not work in 2012. He can’t run on “change” and “hope” when he’s been screwing up the country for four years. He will spend more than half the time on the defensive, and this time the charges will stick. Of course, we could still lose, if we choose the wrong candidate; which is why I think it’s important we snuff out this Palin in 2012 movement as soon as possible. Sure, she’s a swell gal, and a good governor, but she doesn’t have what it takes to be president. She really should of dropped out of the race and taken over Ted Stevens campaign after he was convicted; then perhaps she could’ve been ready by 2018. Alas, she is not.

McCain was running against history. 1920 and 1952 were the last truly open races for the White House, both of which went to the party out of power.

Our plan should include massive civil disobedience to unconstitutional usurpation of power. Dare the U.S. communist government to crack down on us and be prepared to deal with it directly.

God Bless "the great one" but the fairness doctrine is not aimed at him, it is aimed at the station owners who carry him and his compatriots in the business of conservative talk radio. And his winning a case assumes there is a court that favors the rule of law over the rule of emotional empathy. After all, you are talking about "being fair."

That's not correct, he was a lousy candidate and would have been a lousy president. Of course better than BO. But you would end up pulling out all your hair over his stupid policies like global warming, illegals, etc.

I am hesitant about a Palin 2112, too. She has baggage from this election. I think she is utterly fantastic, but she has an uphill battle rebuilding her image outside of the base. Maybe if she succeeds on the talk show circuit for a year and becomes the ‘opposition’ to Obama, I would reconsider. We shall see. I would eye one of the other governors - Jindal, Sanford, etc.

New Mexico: Obama won by 15.

Colorado: Obama won by 7.

It is funny you mention 1920 and 1952... both of the incumbents back then (Wilson and Truman) were extremely unpopular, and their party suffered greatly in the following election. Yet history treats them better in hindsight. That is especially the case with Truman... he had the same low 20’s approval ratings as Bush does now.

Will Bush also be rehabilitated by history? It is hard to see it from where I am sitting right now, but who knows...

She has been Dan Quayled by the mainstream media. Let’s she if she is skilled enough to over come it.

If things hold neither the Fairness doctrine, nor the union voting bill will pass. They will be Filibustered.

“I think it’s important we snuff out this Palin in 2012 movement as soon as possible. Sure, she’s a swell gal, and a good governor, but she doesn’t have what it takes to be president.”

With you there. However, notwithstanding the amen chorus around here, I increasingly doubt she’s even a conservative. Look at the press she gets simply for flapping her gums, but how has she governed? She hasn’t ever shrunk government that I can see. Tough talk does not a conservative make...SEE “read my lips.” Alaska can obviously elect more conservative folks than Stevens or Palin. America needs a conservative nominee for President. RINOs lost us this presidential election. We don’t need another stalking horse for them nominated during the next one.

Sorry. McCain was running against Obama, who raised and spent alot more money and got alot more votes. McCain might have been a good President, but he was a weak candidate.

My first thoughts are that Palin will NOT run in 2012, because Obama is going to be reelected easily. There's going to a Dole style sacrificial lamb. I would guess Romney, not that he's Dole like otherwise but I just think no one is really going to want to take on “The One” in four years.

Palin will start to rehabilitate her image and become the first woman Pres in 2016. Just my thoughts right now, but then I've made a lot of bad predictions in the last couple of years!

New Mexico: Obama won by 15.

NM has been a socialist nanny state for some time. Whenever I visit my kinfolk there, I'm always astounded that the only new buildings I see are state or federal agencies of some kind. No industry, no wealth being created. Sad, really.

Can't wait to see what Richardson gets from Zero in exchange for his soul.

And I can't wait to remind the insufferable libtards in Austin that their vote didn't affect the outcome one way or the other.

Tell the laotzu thinks they are just so cute.

What with their little voter registration cards, and flowers in their hair. Just darling.
