THE bravery, loyalty and endurance of Australian service personnel was honoured around the country today at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, and as the world marked 90 years since the end of World War I.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd gathered with about 3000 people in Canberra to remember the more than 102,000 Australian servicemen and women who have died in war.
Mr Rudd said that despite the mass casualties suffered in World War I and World War II, the world remained in conflict.
"War has continued and the innocent continue to die causing us all to ask: Is war our permanent condition?
"Must every generation go through war to be reminded why there should be no war? Or can we dare to do something different?"
The nation had endured a "most bloody century", he said.
"But let us resolve afresh at the dawn of this new century."
The names of six soldiers were added to the Australian War Memorial's Roll of Honour today, including five killed on active duty in the past year.

Even the pacifist kids showed the utmost respect at the eleventh hour.
