Is Steele an unflinching conservative?
Does Steele know how to win?
Does Steele know how to energize the grassroots?
Does Steele know how to build party infrastructure?
Does Steele know how to fundraise as good or better than the DNC?
At the expense of making some people mad, I have to relate my observations as someone who lives in the Peoples Republic of Maryland
Steele is a good Republican for the state of Maryland, but I’m not sure based on comments he made about the Bush Administration or Rumsfeld that he could be labeled the “full spectrum conservative”. Go back to his Meet the Press debate with Ben Cardin. I have the sinking suspicion that had Steele won that Senate race, he would be referred on this site to other RINO’s like Lindsey Graham, Snowe, Collins, Coleman, etc.
I don’t mean to rain on the Steele bandwagon parade, just my observations. I hope I’m wrong.
Gingrich is a RINO. I used to like him back in the day, but not so much anymore. We need fresh faces. The party is shrinking and guys like Gingrich are not going to help bring in new voters.
Someone that can answer “Yes” to all is Sarah Palin?
Does Newt know how to do any of this in 2008? He thought is was a good idea to sit on a couch with Nan...
The party needs a new direction, a better focus on the issues and youth. Not gray hair and old party politics. The core is what it is and what it always will be, but the Kitchen Table issues are important too. We can't continue to run on a 1982 platform and be surprised that most casual political observers have no clue what we stand for. I'm 31, and I will die a hard core Republican with a firm belief in small government, capitalism and the defense of our nation...but my friends don't care about politics and make fun of me for watching Fox News and reading Free Republic religiously on my lunch break. Those are the people that think politics aren't sexy and those are the people that believe the left when they hear we are intolerant fundamentalist Christians. That has to change if we want to get anywhere.
