The Joint Chiefs are not in the chain of command. They do not execute plans.
At such an historic crossroads in the disintegration of our nation, that would be a terrible tragedy - the DOD is about the only American institution that The Left doesn't own - heck, they even own Langley now.
Without a presence in the DOD, the cause of freedom in America* is doomed.
*Or in whatever emerges to replace America, after its impending socio-political collapse and implosion.
And THAT, I suspect, is the REAL Obama/Ayers plan. They want to demoralize our military so that many of the finest will leave (and be replaced with leftists and worse).
We need to support and encourage our wonderful troops, at every level of rank, to STAY IN and ride out the leftist assault on our military.

I hope not. This is exactly the problem, not confronting liberals. We take our kids out of schools, and run from them when we should stand and fight. Because for every Schwarzkopf and Petraeus there's a Weasely Clark and Colin Powell in the wings.
No officer is going to resign over closing Gitmo. They are about career and not the politics. Why throw away all those years of sacrifice for a CINC that you may or may not like.

Obama is planning to cut military personnel by at least 25%, and wants to cut by 50%. He also wants to cut the budget by the same amount, not including cutting NMDs, nuclear weapons, and the WOT.
