I watched Full Metal Jacket. Laughed most of the time I was watching it. Some resemblance but not much. I thought it was pretty unrealistic. Maybe far-fetched is better.

How’s that going? Our g/son is going in July. I don’t think I can handle not talking to him daily..

We could tell in his first few letters that he was scared and disoriented a bit. Seems to be with the program now, though. You'll be O.K.-bummed out in the beginning but it gets better with time.

The weird thing is the snail mail. A built in 8-day delay on any commo. Disconcerting in the digital age.

Hmmm. I don’t think I spent ten weeks on the Island in total. Let’s see - got there on January 27 and left April 7 (I think). Both of those dates were a Tuesday, I do remember that.

It's 13 weeks now. 1 week "forming", 12 weeks training. All graduations are on Friday unless it's a major holiday. Thanks for your service.

In 1969 Navy boot camp was 13 weeks. I think AF was 6 at the time. Army wasn’t very long ‘cause they needed grunts in Nam.

Navy boot camp was a lot of “fun”, too. We didn’t fire weapons but we ran a hell of a lot.

Fired the weapons after I got in the Seabees.

And I’ve only gained about 60 pounds.
