The Right Weighs In on eHarmony Settlement (Hint: They’re Not Happy)
by Kilian Melloy

Friday Nov 21, 2008

When eHarmony refused to list matches between men seeking men or women seeking women, other sites such as Chemistry.com stepped in with their ads reading, "Because I’m Gay?" and promised gay and lesbian customers that they, too, would get a fair shake at finding someone special through their services.

But for new Jersey resident Eric McKinley, that was not a satisfactory alternative. McKinley wanted the same service from the same provider that heterosexual customers would get, so, in 2005, he filed suit.

The state of New Jersey pursued the suit, coming to an accommodation this week with eHarmony that the site--the creation of a Focus on the Family affiliated pastor named Neil Warren--would set up an alternative service for gay and lesbian customers. The new service is required to start on or before the end of March.

In the wake of that settlement, the right wing has made its displeasure known. Indeed, so have prominent, openly gay individuals such as conservative commentator Andrew Sullivan, though right-wing comment on the case has neglected to mention it.

*Snip*

Malkin’s article was posted at the Free Republic discussion forum for comment, where the story drew comments such as, "This is the fruit of the ’public accommodation’ rulings that started with Brown vs. Board of Education."

Continued the poster of that comment, "If the government can force any business to serve everybody indiscriminately, then we no longer claim a right to free association.

"And having forfeited that right, our lives are not our own anymore."

Responding to Malkin’s sentence reading, "Don’t like what eHarmony sells? Go somewhere else," another commentator wrote, "...that’s the way life in America USED to be.

"This sets a precedence that will worm it’s [sic] way into more "privately" run business ONLY run by/for whites, christians [sic] and/or straight people.

"Private country clubs, private Catholic schools, Rotary clubs etc."

Wondered another user, "Why don’t they just shut down?

"This is what I can’t understand. Why not do an Atlas Shrugged type move?

"Same with the auto companies," the user continued. "The big three should get together and just close down.

"Same with every company the government or any other group of deviants threaten."

Replied another blogger, "The Big Three’s well thought out business models are in the process of putting your plan into action."

Agreed another, "I’m not Neil Warren, but I would have to think long and hard about a reason not to just shut eHarmony down rather than to serve as a facilitator for this activity."

Not all gay and lesbian pundits were pleased to see the state of New Jersey force a private business into doing business with a population it wished not to serve, but some right-wing Web resources discounted that, characterizing the suit as typical of the GLBT equality movement

What I do not understand is if one company rejects you, why can’t you just go to another company that supports that lifestyle?

Eharmony’s caving to the extortion of the lavender mafia is unforgivable. An entirely grotesque drag show.

From the article: Mass News.com suggested singles of faith to look into Singlebelievers.net, which was described at the site as "a new dating site that is committed to the traditional view of marriage, and thus, does not promote same-sex dating."

What's to keep the militant/activist gays from targeting them as well?

.....why can’t you just go to another company that supports that lifestyle?

That's not the point. YOU are supposed to tolerate them, but THEY don't have to tolerate YOU...............

“What I do not understand is if one company rejects you, why can’t you just go to another company that supports that lifestyle?”

Because it’s the agenda of the militany gays for the MAJORITY to confirm to the MINORITY.

It really has nothing to do with eHarmony....just a means to an end.

I say, take their money and randomly match them up...or, better yet, constantly match up gay men with lesbians. Explain that the computer model indicates that this would be the best fit.

It's polite to clean up simple mistakes in grammar when moving from the instant informality of a blog to a more formal medium. The author and editors in this article were not polite in that regard. A simple oversight?

No. That wee [sic] tag is a literary stiletto, a character assassin's dagger. They employed it to make it appear that Freepers are sub-intelligent.

Yet we know -- this week -- from one politics quiz made public that Rush and Hannity listeners outrank every other group of listeners and readers of the media outlets listed. For example those who listen to NPR, or CNN, or who read the "lofty" Atlantic. And Freepers are heavily represented among that elite group of people knowledgeable about civics. And we can spell and get grammar correct as well -- when needed. Yet having our posts be grammatically correct is not as high a priority of moving our discussions forward.

I'd take any ten Freepers picked at random and expect them to outscore by some significant measure any of the fellow authors and editors at that mean-spirited publication in any measure of general intelligence and education.

This is real simple.
Set up the domain name for them, get a web-hosting server to put a POS site together with horrible performance for 19.95/month to host it. If they don’t like the quality of service, that is a different matter altogether.

I clicked on it to read the article. Looked like a fag rag to me, replete with pictures of buff doods and women with crew-cuts who looked like men.
