GUNMEN who killed more than 80 people in Mumbai last night ordered hotel guests: Put your hand up if youre British or American. Frightened hostages were marched off and their fate was unclear. Local reports said they could include up to 40 British and other foreigners.
Late last night police were said to be storming two luxury hotels, one of which was ablaze.
The Oberoi and Taj Mahal Palace hotels were among at least SEVEN locations attacked simultaneously as maniacs with machine guns and bombs staged massacres that rocked the teeming Indian city.
At least 900 were wounded as the wild-eyed terrorists, thought to be Islamic fanatics, opened fire and lobbed grenades indiscriminately.
A rail station, restaurant and police HQ were also hit, along with a hospital where 58 perished.
The Foreign Office was frantically trying to find out if Britons were among the latest victims.
Anyone concerned about friends or relatives should call the Foreign Office on 0207 0080000
At the Oberoi, Brit Alex Chamberlain who works for the Indian Premier League cricket website told how he managed to slip away as up to 40 guests were herded up 18 flights of stairs at gunpoint.
He said: They told everybody to put their hands up if there were any British or Americans.
My friend said to me, dont be a hero, dont say you are British.
I am sure that is what this is all about. They were talking about British and Americans specifically.
There was an Italian guy. They said, Where are you from?. He said he was from Italy and they said fine and they left him alone.
I thought, Fine, theyre going to shoot me if they ask me anything and thank God they didnt.
Fellow Brit Rakesh Patel confirmed: They wanted anyone with British or American passports.
Later an explosion was reported after commandos were said to have stormed in.
At the Taj Mahal Palace, British Euro MP Sajjad Karim told how he fled as gunmen burst in.
Holed up in its basement with other survivors, the Torys voice shook with fear as he said via mobile phone: A gunman just stood there spraying bullets around, right next to me.
I managed to turn away and I ran into the hotel kitchen and then we were shunted into a restaurant in the basement. We are now in the dark in this room and weve barricaded all the doors. Its really bad.
He told of seeing several people go down as the gunmen opened up.
A guest at a wedding reception said: Everyone the bride, the groom, everyone just ran.
One hotel guest said a stairway was full of bodies.
Amid the mayhem, police and paramedics used anything they could lay their hands on to transport the injured.
Some were wheeled to safety on the hotels golden luggage carts.
Screaming
Later, fires burned in the top floors as police reportedly tried to overpower gunmen.
Screaming people were seen hanging out of windows of lower floors as firefighters tried to reach them with ladders and cherry-pickers.
The hotel was used by the England cricket team just two weeks ago and they were due to stay there again for next months Second Test.
Last night there were fears the Test may be called off.
Plans by Middlesex County Cricket Club to fly out today for the inaugural Twenty20 Champions League were scrapped.
The bloodbaths began at 10.33pm local time. Gunmen in jeans and carrying rucksacks fired AK47s and threw grenades at the crowded CST railway terminus killing ten.
At the police HQ, a frantic cop yelled down the phone: We are under fire, there is shooting at the gate. The chief of the anti-terror squad was among three top cops reported killed.
Three more people died when a taxi was blown up near the airport.
Another target was the citys famous Cafe Leopold a mecca for tourists.
It was left pitted with bullet holes with pools of blood on the floor where diners had fled leaving behind their shoes.
Journalist Sourav Mishra was wounded in the shoulder as he ate there with friends. Last night he was having to share a hospital bed with THREE other injured patients. He said: I heard gunshots something hit me. I ran away and fell on the road.
Hospital officials said a Japanese man had died there and nine Europeans had been admitted, three of them in critical condition with gunshots.
An Indian government spokesman said four suspects had been killed in two incidents when they tried to flee in cars.
He added another more died at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and nine more were arrested.
Mumbai has frequently been targeted by Islamic extremists, including a series of bombings in July 2007 that killed 187 people.
A group calling itself the Deccan Mujahedeen last night boasted its members had staged the attacks.
Police said: The encounters are still going on and we are trying to overpower them.
Most of that would have to come from within Islam. They won’t allow themselves to be consigned to the dustbin of history. Obviously they are not beyond inhuman violence to stay relevant.
The real problem is no leader has had the courage to wage the war that must be waged. When you wage PC wars and wars to “win hearts and minds” your results are always going to be mixed at best.
I would wage Psy-Op campaigns (which I will not go into detail about) against them and end most, if not all of this Mahomet nonsense. You have to make them want to quit. You have to exploit their every weakness and we all know what their weaknesses are but are reluctant to exploit them as we must follow PC guidelines even when fighting wars.
For starters, you don’t give terrorists in prison Korans and all the Islamic comforts of home.
“but that would involve massive use of nuclear weapons on various terrorist states, and an absolute ban on Muslim immigration and even the practice of the religion in our country.”
If that is what it takes, it may have to be done. A fw nuclaer attacks on the American homesoil and the clueless masses may finally wake up.
...Just remember to tote some of your ammo over to widows houses, nursing homes and elementary schools to help out.
Up until the day he died at his assisted living facility in February my Grandfather had his .308 hunting rifle and his taken Japanese infantry rifle in his abode and until about 5 days before he passed he would have shouldered them...
“They wont allow themselves to be consigned to the dustbin of history.”
WE will have to “convince” them that is there is their proper spot.
I agree with everything else you say.
President Bush and President Elect Dumbass had better get this aspect of it emphasized at ONCE.
Simple ...if I were in such a situation, and was an American, I would think of my spouse and my kids, and then ask myself if telling some piece of terrorist scum that I am American just so that he can whisk me away and cut my head off on celluloid, which my family would inevitably see (some day), was worth the few moments of pleasure of standing up and telling him to his face that I was a darn proud bl@@dy American and spitting into his mug! I really do not think it is cowardice saying you are Swiss in such a situation ....I think it is prudence. I also do not think it is bravery standing with arms akimbo and saying that you are American and d@mn what they do to you, that would be simply stupidity since it is not solving anything.
Thus the answer in such a situation would be possible ....saying you are Swiss in a weird accent. Saying you are American, and having your family wonder for weeks on end if you are alive in some dank dark wet cell waiting for some wild-eyed Jihadi to cut off your head, or whether you are already dead, makes no sense.
Now, if you saying that would save lives, then that makes you a hero. However, if all it does is give you exactly 5 seconds of pleasure for 'telling em as it is,' and then after that follows years of anguish for your family as they relive the Daniel Pearl experience, then it is not worth it.
Being a proud national of any country is more internal than external ....the belief and fervor for one's country, even when shown to the entire world and held up in all its glory, always has to stem from the heart, the mind and the soul. Meaning, as a Kenyan for instance, I don't have to stand up and 'prove' to unwashed scum anything, particularly when it may affect my loved ones.
Now, this is what gives me pause. What if, instead of nationality, the question was on faith? It reminds me of that girl in Columbine who was asked if she was Christian, said yes, and was promptly shot.
Someone at the Sun has a grim sense of humor.
Meanwhile, the office of President Elect issued a statement calling for dialogue to end the cycle of violence.
I’m sorry he’s gone.
He would’ve made up for “Jason’s” “screw America” shirking.
May God bless your grandfather.
No killing the terrorists. Castrate them with a rusty, pigs-blood soaked knife. Then shoot them in each knee with a shot-gun, amputate the limbs and lock in a flea infested dungeon. No talks, no negotiations, no media, no pictures, nothing.
Egypt, North Africa, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Bosnia, Albania, much of Iraq and parts of Yemen were all Christian. Then we sat back and let these Satan worshippers of Islam take in and reduce our people to dhimmis or worse muslimes.
In this day and age, anyone thinking such people asking such questions are rational and do not intend to kill them probably needs to be culled from the herd.
The proper response in my opinion is to:
The nature of terrorism is such that they can be regarded as amatuers since they never live beyond their first terrorist mission. One amatuer terrorist with a submachine gun will still be distracted if 100 hostages begin throwing keychains, glasses, plates and cellphones at him.
All this time, you know you are doomed if you comply and do nothing. Instead, you are waiting for the chance to plunge an inkpen into the nearest terrorists throat/eye/heart/lung and or attempt an escape.
If this ever happens again, one person in the room has to tell the terrorist(s) that they have 10 seconds to evacuate the room or everyone will rush them and beat them to a pulp. Then everyone count beginning counting from 10 to zero. When the count reaches zero, carry out the threat and beat the living tar out of them until they die. Will someone innocent die if the terrorists do not leave and begin to shoot? Probably. But it is like falling on a grenade to save others. Nothing wrong with dying a hero’s death.
IF only the crowd would, but most will vainly hope to be spared if they just go along.Heck the Jews outnumbered the concentration camp guards but when did they storm en masse?
“Then we sat back and let these Satan worshippers of Islam take in and reduce our people to dhimmis or worse muslimes.”
Yup!But remember, in the New World Order we’ve been served, Mohammedans are our friends and allies! /s
The only thinig which changes is the clock.
WHERE is the outrage in the Christian wolrd over the treatment our Coptic and Assyrian and Chaldean brothers and sisters receive from these venomous demons.
I think you are exactly right on this score.
India can take care of this...and will.
Pakistan is going to be a burning hole.
