Smith Sad Mumbai Terrorists Missed Americans, Hit Indians?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 11/28/2008 5:03:52 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Is Harry Smith sad that the Mumbai terrorists missed their intended American and British targets and hit Indians? Strange as it sounds, it's hard to interpret his remark of this morning otherwise.

Smith was discussing the attacks on the Early Show with CBS terrorism expert Jere Van Dyk when he made his bizarre observation.

Ask me why so few people watch CBS. I look forward to the fairness doctrine for tv news.

The drive-by's no longer consider themselves Americans. They're all citizens of the world like their messiah.

Sadly it is just a matter of time until similar acts of terror will be happening in the US as terrorists are emboldened by a weak President who will seek apeasement rather than confrontation.

Just another example of how the Drive-by Media identify with and root for the enemies of the United States and of Western Civilization.

Gee Harry, it's too bad you weren't in Mumbai for the fun, they would have been more than happy to kill you, you American infidel b@str@ed, you.

It's seeming more likely now that the 'new' group claiming responsibility for these cowardly attacks on civilians in India (Deccan Mujahideen) may be just an old group using a different/new name. In other words, the 'Deccan Mujahideen' may very well be one in the same with the Indian Mujahideen, who, as it says below, are an offshoot of the Students Islamic Movement of India, or 'SIMI'. Incredible as it is, SIMI was founded by an Illinois professor! (some details below)

So this is a remarkably similar situation to Students For a Democratic Society (SDS), decades earlier in the U.S., splitting off into the Weather Underground. And Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn are (now) both university professors in Illinois!

"While multiple outlets have reported that a group called the Deccan Mujahideen have claimed responsibility for the attacks, Rediff.com reports that police and the Intelligence Bureau are not ruling out the involvement by the Indian Mujahideen, an offshoot of the Students Islamic Movement of India [SIMI]."

"the most likely groups that may be behind these attacks are the Lashkar e Toiba [or] SIMI (they now call themselves Indian Mujaheedin)."

Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)

The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, is an Islamist fundamentalist organization, which advocates the ‘liberation of India’ by converting it to an Islamic land. The SIMI, an organisation of young extremist students has declared Jihad against India, the aim of which is to establish Dar-ul-Islam (land of Islam) by either forcefully converting everyone to Islam or by violence.

Formation:

The SIMI was formed at Aligarh in the State of Uttar Pradesh on April 25, 1977. Mohammad Ahmadullah Siddiqi, Professor of Journalism and Public Relations at the Western Illinois University Macomb, Illinois, was the founding President of the outfit. It originally emerged as a student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH).

Terror Crackdown - Post Delhi Blasts, A defining moment?
September 25, 2008

"IM [Indian Mujahideen] was unique in the way that its members were educated youth, many of them even engineers and MBAs. They operated in small and largely independent modules. The anger which Muslims felt after Gujarat riots was used by people like Nagauri to get young , educated members into his unit. He also specifically looked for technically qualified youths and those who had some angst or grudges against the state or police. IM [Indian Mujahideen] also got hooked to LeT (Lashkar e Toiba) which helped it with initial trainings and funds. Trainings were conducted in various parts of country in Jungles of Kerala to Karnataka. Recruits were taught to swim, fire pistols, and make bombs. After a camp, these recruits would then fan out to many places and build their network of terror.

Police started the hunt after the bomb blasts in UP and name of IM for first time emerged. Unlike in past, when most of bomb blasts used to be handiwork of Pakistanis, this time evidence was pointing out to homegrown terror groups. As many bomb blats followed in many Indian cities, Police found it tough to crack the cases and it was due to nature of IM and how they operated. Things were also tough for police as the intelligence was scattered and every state police acted independently. The real break came with arrest of Safdar Nagauri a secretary general SIMI from Madhya Pradesh and then later with arrest of Abu Bashar a recruit of IM , soon after Ahmedabad blasts. These two key members provided vital clues in functioning on IM and after Delhi blasts, the proverbial camel's back was broken. There was tremendous hue and cry throughout the country to act tough on terror. The central government which was slack in taking tough steps until now (perhaps thinking that it will upset Muslim community) was jolted out of its reverie. All states were asked to coordinate their efforts, share intelligence and act as one team. The bits and pieces of intelligence collected over the years by various state police were sewn together and sketchy leads were formed, good enough to act upon. And this is how MC Sharma was asked to raid a flat in Delhi which eventually led to killing of 2 suspected IM terrorists and capturing of 2 more. Unfortunately, Sharma who was not wearing his Bullet proof jacket also lost his life. Two suspected terrorists were reported to have escaped during encounter. Sharma was hailed and quite deservingly, a hero, and his funeral was attended by many politician including home minister, who until few days ago was about to be ejected out of his office."

I’m of two minds on your point. Mostly I agree, but sometimes I can see this guy blundering into a full scale shootout the likes of which the world hasn’t seen since 1939/45.

Yes, but Americans are armed: The terrorists won’t have such an easy time here, especially in the South (which I predict they will bypass, for the most part).

Again, Indian Mujaheddin = SIMI/Students Islamic Movement of India = Deccan Mujaheddin

ROHAN GUNARATNA, GLOBAL TERRORISM EXPERT: The terrorist group that mounted this attack has claimed that its name is Deccan Mujaheddin.

But in fact it is a group called Indian Mujaheddin. This group has been active in the past few years, and it has killed about 250 people.

You wish...if there's a fairness doctrine it will only apply to conservatives...count on it. Do you think NPR will be touched, though they have round the clock liberal personalities pushing liberalism and their special brand of condescension? Do you think the FCC would apply fairness to ABC who gave George Stepawhathisface his own Sunday talk show months out from his service in the Clinton administration? Think the FCC would order Rove to be given a show? Not a chance. The "fairness doctrine" is about stopping conervative ideas.

I think you could generously interpert his remarks as being sad that anyone, including Indians, were killed. He was obviously choosing his words very carefully. It’s hard to always be perfectly clear when speaking, often, the wrong words come out. I’ll give him a pass.

Perhaps, but it was a very strange formulation that to me smacked of PC sentiment. Would he ever have said the opposite in a similar situation: that it was too bad other terrorists missed, say, Darfurians and hit Americans?

Looks like he was upset that the story wouldn’t capture more ratings because foreigners weren’t attacked.

Did they have a segment on how to use leftover turkey after this?

Wonder if they suggested curry turkey to loop the stories together/sarc-sick
