They (pollsters) are trying to flood the GOP primaries with as many candidates as possible so a “McCain” candidate can emerge.... We should set limits to 3-4 candidates only...NOT 12....

Hey, it worked in 2000. Nine conservatives ran against McCain, Liddy Dole and GW Bush. Look what we got. I would have gladly taken Forbes or Quayle, but had to settle for Bush (unenthusiastically, but better him than McCain).

Not to say that Bush didn't have his moments, but we could have done better than "compassionate conservatism".
