In P{ittsburgh, they are seldom publicly critical. I wonder if Santonio Holmes will be back next year after his pot arrest.

America needs to rally to Burress’ defense and line up against Comrade Bloomberg. He needs the finest constitutional lawyers available and this case needs to utterly destroy the NYC gun laws once and for all.

NYC gives you the option of choosing between being subject to the whims of criminals or spending years in prison for attempting to ensure your safety.

He will go to prison. Ideally, he should be made to pay a big fine for the negligent discharge of a weapon and ordered to attend firearms safety classes.

I agree with the underlying ideas but the fact is, laws are laws and disobeying them, even for the noblest of reasons, means you’ll go before a judge.

That isn't really true. After all, the notification to police of what medical treatment Plaxico Burress received is itself a violation of federal law (HIPAA regulations). Willful release of any individually identifiable health information carries a penalty of $50,000 and up to a year in jail (more if commercial advantage, personal gain, or malicious harm is involved).

There is no exemption for police in the regulations, but it is very unlikely that the police, reporters, medical personnel, etc. who obtained and released the information will ever be charged for their federal crimes.

As the very existence of this case proves (Burress being charged for a "crime" which is itself unlawful under the Constitution), our legal system is not the bastion of justice we pretend it to be. If Burress had been a well-connected politician or government employee, the incident would have never made the news nor would he be facing any sort of legal sanction.

Me too. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. And when you're the toughest kid on the block (ie, a linebacker) there's always one fool that wants to knock you off the top.

Buress was incredibly irresponsible with the gun. However, if he was indeed carrying for protection, I agree with that point, wholeheartedly.

"WE ALL DESERVE THAT RIGHT."

'Zactly. We already have that right guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment, routinely infringed by our elected officials.

Glocks don't have a separate safety, it's part of the trigger. The pistol will only fire if the trigger is squeezed. Burress had the pistol tucked into the waistband of his sweatpants, it slipped out and he grabbed it, squeezing the trigger.

I agree. You should have the right to carry. Also, the responsibility to carry SAFELY. The respect to NOT carry in a private business where they expressly ban firearms, and the sense God gave a turnip not to shoot yourself in the leg.

Another version. Hadn’t heard this one. Wonder how he got by security in the first place since he already had a drink?

I defend his right to carry a weapon. There is no defense for his stupidity.
Course it may cost him what, 20 plus million.

Just because you may go to N.Y. or Maryland or New Jersey or some other state you should not have to be unarmed.

Let me play devil's advocate: Have you ever been on a crowded subway during rush hour, particularly after work this time of the year when many of the riders have been drinking? What happens when some drunk pulls a pistol out of his shoulder holster because someone standing 6 inches from his face looked at him the wrong way. That could set off a chain reaction, if everyone is allowed to carry at will, with bullets flying at close range and no place to dive for cover. Because the subway is so crowded, you might not even be able to ID the bad guy. I can imagine the same situation in Grand Central Station during the rush hours when there are more people passing through the main lobby at any given time than the number of people living in a small town or city. Same thing for Times Square and other mid-town streets at certain times of the day. The population density at certain times and locations is just so great that allowing everyone to carry at will is a recipe for a blood bath.

If the place you are going is THAT dangerous, take security or don’t go.

What is it with these guys hanging out in nightclubs so dangerous they need to install metal detectors? What do they expect to find there? Better looking women than at an upscale, safe club in the good parts of town? Hardly.

These guys can afford to go drink Dom Perignon at the best, most upscale clubs in whatever city they live in, and yet they decide to hang out in a place where they feel they need a firearm to protect themselves.

What's the point of becoming rich and successful if you still keep subjecting yourself to that type of crap?

Has anyone heard any details on just how Plax shot himself?

I don't know the specific details, but I think they're calling it a "Placcident."

Dave Chappelle had a great series of comedy skits about the negative consequences of “keeping it real” if you live outside of the ghetto.

Holmes isn’t going anywhere. He’s way more valuable than Cedric Wilson who was cut for his domestic dispute earlier this year. Rooneys said they didn’t want that type of behavior surrounding the team, yet they kept James Harrison when he was arrested for the same reason.

Roethlisberger will have a sh*t fit if they cut Holmes. And keeping your franchise QB is way more important than ethics.
