MONTERREY, Mexico (Reuters) An American anti-kidnapping expert who was himself abducted last week in northern Mexico was likely snatched by drug traffickers seeking to protect their turf, police said on Tuesday.
Gunmen hauled Felix Batista into a white SUV outside a restaurant last week in the relatively safe industrial city of Saltillo in Coahuila state, where he was giving seminars on security to police and business people.
Batista, a Cuban-American from Miami who is credited with negotiating the release of people abducted by Colombian rebels, was snatched when he stepped outside the restaurant after answering a cell phone call, Coahuila state attorney general's office said.
No ransom has been demanded, police said.
The local attorney general's office said Batista had been invited by state police to give talks on security amid Mexico's gruesome drug war, which has killed more than 5,300 people this year, double the 2007 level.
"We don't believe this was a normal kidnapping, more like the work of drug gangs wanting to show their power," said an official at the state attorney general's office. "Batista was giving seminars, he wasn't negotiating anyone's release."
Batista's Houston-based employer, security consultancy ASI Global, said he was on private business in Coahuila.

We should deputize Chertoff and Paulson and send them down to find the abductee.
Why send the amateurs when this calls for the pros.
Something tells me he skipped a few classes and cheated on his tests.
I hope that the man survives, intact.
That said, if he does then his job prospects in his chosen field have been, uh, eroded a bit.
Find the cell phone caller and I suspect you find out who set him up.
This is likely to affect his credentials.

Unfortunately , unless God intercedes, there is only one reason to grab him and that is to cut him up in little identifiable pieces and to make sure he is found.
The drug cartel is doing the USA a gigantic favor. The more they kill, the fewer come here.
Regrettably, I agree.
Well, McCain, et als PC immigration experiment has finally left us with what I believe is a terrible dilemma. We will be overrun with an exodus from Mexico like nothing this nation has ever seen. We will either take them or we will be forced to send troops to Mexico to work along side a corrupt army and police.
One way or another a lot of people are going to die over some peoples greed/ideology.

“The drug cartel is doing the USA a gigantic favor. The more they kill, the fewer come here.”
They are doing us a favor by abducting an American citizen? They are doing us a favor when they kill law enforcement and judges and government officials who will not play ball with them? Yeah they kill a few thousand a year involved with the drug trade, but there are plenty more where those came from. And all the killing and instability in Mexico is probably a big part of the reason a lot of people will come here for a better life. Our interests are better served if Mexico is a safe, decent place where people can make a living in relative peace. These powerful Mexican drug trafficking organizations are not doing us any favors.
We just disagree, that’s all.
Good riddance, communist.
You are an idiot
