What is clear is that in the end, if the board WANTS to give the race to a candidate, they can do it, based on the bizarre decisions they’ve made so far.
The problem still stems from the incredibly suspicious and statistically impossible 500+ vote “corrections” that occurred after the election but before the recount.
This circus just serves to illustrate how corrupt they are.
I would think if they voted primarily republican or demorat then it should be fairly obvious who the vote was for.
But if there is any question then the ballot should not count at all. That would be the only fair and legal thing to do
It doesn't matter much, win or lose (Franken or Coleman, take your pick) the country doesn't have near that long. It's just a matter of how fast to the finish. Coleman wins it takes maybe 4 or 6 years longer. Franken wins and the road is a whole lot shorter, but no less bloody.
Actually, fools who make a mess of a simple ballot - are clearly too incompetent to vote.
I wouldn’t want such folks making decisions that effect my life or wallet.
This is a challenged ballot!!!!

No Republican lawyers around there? The recount should be straightly bipartisan.
Aren’t you fed up with the libtard mess and hijacking of US democracy/freedom?
That’s a shame
And my 70-year-old relative with Parkinson's and 40-year-old friend with cerebral palsy can't.
And neither of them is an "idiot" by a long-shot.
But hey, maybe your 5-year-old will be lucky and find a career as a colorist for a black-and-white comic book! ;-)
ml/nj>I'd throw both of these ballots out.
Seven plus One>Unless theyre absentees, then theyre trash. period.
pepperdog>Ballots such as these should be thrown out without any further consideration.
stylin19a>yikes...both those ballots s/b tossed.
So it's okay to break the law because the voter failed to follow instructions?!? Would someone who advocates that view please explain in a little more detail when it's okay to just flat-out ignore the law and make a decision based on personal whim?
I'm starting to wonder if many Democrats are too clumsy to color within the lines and many FReepers are too dense to see the difference between an X standing alone and an X through an oval. (Or determine ballot decisions based on Minnesota law rather than their own opinion of what the law should be.)
Heck, if conservatives are going to act like libs, why should there be any cheering or praying for Coleman over Franken?!
I think that voter intent on the second one is that the X is to mark "no," except that the law (M.S. 204C.22) specifically defines a mark as "X" but allows alternate ones. (Disclaimer: IANAL)
I'm hoping that peer pressure will at least put some brake on a RHINO. With Franken, there's NO hope.
Soros helped elect dems to office in several states canvassing boards and Sec State positions before this election. He has taken over this country. God help us.
Sorry to spoil your Minnesota apologist streak here, but why exactly are you making excuses for these people? People with Parkinson’s or cerebral palsy would, in many cases, be smart enough to either ask for help initially (which is legally required everywhere) or ask for another ballot if they’ve ruined one.
If you can’t read directions, can’t fill in an oval, and can’t ask for help or another ballot if you’ve vomited ink all over the ballot, then I’m more inclined to believe you’re an idiot.
In Minnesota, the voter inserts his or her ballot in the scanner after marking it. Such an overvote would be flagged, and the voter given a new ballot. If they received a new ballot, the old one would be discarded.
Either these are undiscarded duplicate ballots, or the voter voluntarily chose not to complete a new ballot, and forfeited their vote in this particular race.
Either way they should be discarded.
It's like the canvasing boards have no knowledge of the local polling rules.
Honestly, after working as an election judge this time around, I’m of the opinion that for future elections, we should just throw all improperly marked ballots out.
It’s getting ridiculous how many steps were taken to show how to properly mark up a ballot, and yet these morons continue to waste time and taxpayer money with their incompetence.
Any 10 year old can fill in a bubble.
