Tony Blankley: Leaving the Watchtowers of Freedom [Obama's citizen army and the Fairness Doctrine]
The Jewish World Review ^ | December 10, 2008 | Tony Blankley

Posted on 12/27/2008 2:34:10 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Last week, The Washington Post reported on President-elect Barack Obama's plan to convert his campaign's massive digital database of millions of supporters' contact and background data into a location that will permit him to use that data legally as a tool of persuasion for his governing effort. The Post accurately characterized it as the most important presidential exploitation of a new technology for political purposes since FDR used the then-new radio technology back in the 1930s to talk to, persuade and galvanize the American public.

As someone who did political communications and policy work on Ronald Reagan's White House staff, I can only be admiring of the tremendous political power that these new tools place in Obama's hands. We spent our years constantly trying to get President Reagan's message to the public without having to go through the distorting lens of the Washington press corps. We made huge efforts to try to communicate with specific segments of the public. If we could have merely pressed a button and made immediate, direct, unfiltered contact with tens of millions of our strongest supporters (or any and all demographically and politically sliced and diced pieces of them), I would have thought I had gone to political operative heaven.

Of course, what would have been heaven for us would have been hell for the political opposition. But if we Reaganites didn't have such a technology, our Democratic opposition didn't have any technology of their own, either, so at least it was a fair fight (although the conventional Washington media leaned toward the Democrats).

But today, the conservative opposition to liberalism (in all its political, academic and media guises) at least has talk radio as a strong voice to our constituencies, and that has helped balance the advantage the liberals get from mainstream media bias.

Good post 2ndDivisionVet.

I am just glad that it is almost 2009, and not 1992, and that there are a billion "channels" on the internet in the form of independent bloggers.

As repulsive as Pelosi and her brown shirts are, I think technologically speaking, the cat is out of the bag and there are too many choices for news for them to suppress any of them.

I really do not think Obama has to do much in the way of communicating anything of substance (he doesn’t have a substantive message anyway), but that is beside the point...

Trying to get “something” out through the myopic “distort(ed) lens of the Washington press corps” is actually not going to be much of a challenge anyway, since this is their guy...It will be interesting to see how much they trip over themselves to beat each other to the punch line over the next 4 years...

And restrain themselves to keep the lid on anything that will hurt “their guy”...

As painful and revolting this display is going to be over that timeframe, we must all be vigilant, learn to read between the lines, stay on top of what representation we still have to keep in check this administration and the majority that was elected by the unwashed and intellectually lazy masses of mush-minded nitwits...

I feel that too many of us will slink back into the shadows and not participate in keeping the pressure, not so much on what will be in charge, but more important, pound the heck out of what is left of our side of the aisle to keep their backbones strong...

Thats just one of the things I believe will keep the conservative message above water...

Yes, they will. A new era of Stalinism is coming to America. Hussein will be the titular head.

....And EXPECT as a result an ANGRY BACKLASH against any efforts.

“an ANGRY BACKLASH”

I’m not so sure about that. It is the “conservatives” who have only a semlance of civility left in their souls. It is not the conservatives who riot at the drop of offensiveness or who have little regard for life or respect for values. Conservatives these days will sit back and watch crap happen—just like in the recent nominations/elections.

It was going to come to this showdown one day. Looks like it is nigh. Odumbo and his facist/stalinist legions on one side and freedom-loving patriots on the other. We are about to find out if slavery trumps freedom. We know who has the numbers, now let’s see whose will is strongest.

Obama and the left will do ANYTHING to take our freedoms away and turn us into slaves. We will win the fight when we are willing, fully prepared and determined to do ANYTHING to stop them.

I find it hard to conceive of an effective cyber-army on the Left, since the average Obama voter has an IQ of a kumquat.

During Obama’s campaign, I E-mailed his campaign people to the effect of “What qualifications does this Kenyan Marxist junior Senator from Crimeland County have?” They wrote back thanking me for my support and put me on their E-mailing list for dollar hit-ups, rallies etc. They never read my Email.

Is this typical of their “support base”?

Silly article! Everyone knows he went on TV in the late 20's. Joe Biden said so....

With all due respect to your worthy post, change starts at home, so they say. You do not feel that too many will etc. etc. You think, or believe, or deduce, or imagine... But you do not feel it. One feels happy, hungry, sleepy, horny.

I believe that a good first step is to attempt to de-liberalize the language by not falling into the trap of twisted definitions foisted on us by the PC illiterati.

The use of "feel" when you really mean something else is a pet peeve of mine.

Yes, I agree, a bad Freudian (sp?) slip...

I should have said “believe” instead of “feel”...

It might have been because of a low caffiene condition and the time of the morning when I made the post...

Excellent catch though...Gracias...

Actually, I’ll bite on this one...Now if I can keep my mind sharp, and caffiened up, etc etc...

I “believe” most of us will stay on top of things, but not be in numbers or position to really “pound” the grassroots message into those we elect into office...Much less the leadership in the party to cease supporting moderates and out and out liberals that keep gaining favor by hanging an “R” on the end of their names...It is destroying this party...

So may the political cycle of a Representative Republic goes...Perhaps???

The pendulum swinging to the left now???

We are about to find out if slavery trumps freedom.

Ironic we do this even as we install an "African-American" in the White House.
