About time Blockbuster got in the game. They're going to have to throw some serious capital at this to make it work as well as they'd like it to.

I’ve been doing this using Netflix for quite awhile now.

Bluckboster doesn't own me - never did. They can stick it where the sun don't shine - 4 bucks a download - get real.

Does this operate thru a phone line? I use my cell and have wireless broadband. No active phone line at my house.

Hard to enter a Walmart now, getting by the line queued up to get the 41 DVD’s from the kiosk in the entrance bay. BB is still over priced but they might have an edge on variety. I haven’t found anything lately that is even worth the $1 to watch.

The idea of sitting in front of a computer monitor to watch a movie doesn’t appeal to me. I’m sure someone more tech savvy will tell me that there’s a way around this.

Blockbuster on Demand is pay as you go, with movies costing between $1.99 and $3.99, Keyes said. You have 30 days to watch the movie, but only 24 hours to finish watching once you start.
With Netflix, you pay a minimum of $8.99 a month to get the Internet streaming service. However, you can watch as much as you want for that price.

I ordered the Roku box for Netflix a few weeks ago. It's a great value. Picture quality is usually comparable if not better than DVD's and they're talking about a hi-def upgrade pretty quick.

Netflix is the way to go. Not a lot of the newest blockbusters are available for streaming, but you can still order the dvd's. The box is great for catching up on lesser known new flicks, older movies, foreign films, documentaries and tv shows.

The tv box for netflix is only $99.00 and there's nothing to pay again ever. All the movies you care to watch are included in the low monthly netflix fee.

"Our competitive advantage is that we already own the customer for home entertainment," he said. "And we think we can migrate them to other" forms of delivery.

Therein lies the eventual demise of Blockbuster.

Ford, GM, Chrysler, and AMC once thought they OWNED the American car buyer. See what that got them?

Blockbusters approach should be that they are fighting for their lives against strong competitors (because they are.)

Blockbuster. Are they still owned by Viacommie? Parent corp to SeeBS, VH1, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, LOGO, and the publisher of Hillary Clinton’s autobiography?

the setbox top concept has been tried.

It is going nowhere fast. It is going to be the same as those self destructing DVD that walmart or best buy tried.

I use Amazon. The rentals are $1 to $3.50 and you can watch instantly. I have never had a problem with their service.

I am feeling dubious about these claims. Also, that “must view in 24 hrs from start” requirement, is unsatisfactory to me. I’ve tried many of these sites that offer DLs, and free or not, they all have to one degree or another, gone choppy on me. Certainly not inspiring a will to pay a monthly fee.

Between Netflix and the web streamers such as Fancast.com, Veoh.com, and Hulu.com, I’m not sure the $1.99-$3.99 will work very well.

Itunes has had pay-downloads for a while.

BB might be better off to follow Netflix’s example: a set fee with the option to download/view as much as the viewer wants.

Also, the expiration terms make the BB/Itunes downloads less desirable. I am not sure whether Netfix’s downloads have expiration dates.

Netflix instant watch is nice as an EXTRA for their main service, delivering Blu-ray discs at a cheap rate.

Instant watch has a TERRIBLE selection, and the president said it likely always will.

All these stupid competing boxes will cancel each other out and fail. AppleTV, Vudu, this Blockbuster thing will all fail.

The thing that’ll live is Netflix since it can be played on Xbox, Tivo, and is starting to show up on Blu-ray players.

Again, the only way to really go is with Blu-ray for a long time. The downloading is an ok ‘extra’.
