Treasury to mull Citi-style rescues

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Treasury Department opened the door Friday to using a Citigroup-style rescue package to help other troubled financial institutions.

The financial lifeline thrown to Citigroup Inc. (C) in late November involved backing billions in risky assets and providing the banking giant with a fresh capital infusion.

Treasury said participation by other companies in such a program would be weighed on a case-by-case basis. Treasury said it would consider, among other things, whether the "destabilization" of a financial institution could threaten the viability of creditors and others. It also would weigh the extent to which the institution faced a loss of confidence because of the troubled assets it held.

The information was contained in guidelines for the initiative, dubbed the Targeted Investment Program, unveiled on Friday.

Please, please Mr. Treasurer don’t give away all that money that the citizens of this great nation have worked hard to attain. You have already given away almost half of their savings and investments - no more! Please don’t do it!!

Funny thing about all these rescues and what the money is being used for. Thousands of employees of these companies are getting pinkslips, but year end bonuses for the executives are bigger than ever.

I just don’t know what to say...

Is there any provisions for getting Bush to leave office NOW? I wish he would get out of there before giving away any more of our money. Of course I expect worse from his replacement....

Thank you very much!!

I watched and listened to every minute of it! Very educational and inspiring! Probably the most time I’ve spent listening to a ‘preacher’ in 20 years. lol

It would really REALLY help if the creeps on Capitol Hill would tell the citizenry to PAY THEIR BILLS---------instead of giving out sap-happy reasons to default on mortgages and consumer debt.......

........this means you Doddsy, Schumer, and Bwaney.

This government is just plain evil. They take 40-50% of people's income and their families have to do without.

Give you an example, when you buy a loaf of bread at the store, it's been taxed over a hundred times.

Then the social security comes out of my check which is 8%. My company pays the other 8%.

If the government would have let me kept my money, I could have invested it at 4-5% a year,

I would have over a million dollars.

What does the government do with all that money that people don't collect?

Like my sister, that worked all of her life and never collected one social security check. She died at 55 with no children.
