When Obama left the Bush admin’s Secretary of Defense in place, there was applause from the right. I suspected the real underlying fact was that Obama simply did not care enough about the military to make an early pick. I think the CIA pick almost proves the point. He does not take it seriously to treat it as other than an opportunity for distributing political spoils. Of course, there are other motives behind both picks. A whipping boy to take the blame at Defense. And a partisan to do his bidding at CIA.
