WASHINGTON – U.S. policy to win in Afghanistan must recognize the poor nation's limitations and its neighborhood, especially its intertwined relationship with U.S. terrorism-fighting ally Pakistan, the top U.S. military commander in the region said Thursday.

Army Gen. David Petraeus, who became a household name overseeing the war in Iraq, now oversees the older, smaller and less promising fight in Afghanistan as well. He predicted a long war in Afghanistan, without quantifying it.

Well, good FINALLY.

What was clear on Sept12 is now being articulated by a general.

7+ years later, but what the hey, better late than never.

Yup! It is like this is some kind of a tricky complicated business that only those who are in the "KNOW" could posibly know.

PFC Numnuts knew it the day he set foot in Afaganistan.

If you go back to old threads from 01 and 02, the amount of Pakistani support when it was obvious they were playing a double game is stunning.

How many Americans died in Afghanistan because the Admin’s strategy was to get Pakistan on board due to the misguided assumption that Pakistan wouldcould “reform” itself.

All those tips from the ISI leading to wildgoose chases by US Army and SF types.

Be funny if it wasn’t tragic.

And what amount of will is left in the country to pursue a resolute strategy in that area.....I doubt there is much.

And now, we get the truth from Petreaus.
