I thought the book on Clinton was that it was a huge mistake to take this issue on in the first month.

Maybe O thinks he's better than the Clinton's; after all he's got one carrying his water at State.

In 1992 it was a radical idea. Think about those halcyon days of the early 90s when the first televised lesbian kiss on the Ellen show made the cover of Time magazine. It was a huge deal back then and met with a lot of resistance.

Now fast forward to 2009. Fortune 500 companies commonly have domestic partner benefits, discrimination against sexual orientation is protected in virtually every environment and the bisexual make-out sessions of MTV reality shows are a far cry from Ellen's quick smootch on the lips. The military is just a microcosm of society and when social mores change in the civilian world, they usually follow suit in the military as well.
