The Elephant in the Room: McCain may be Obama's secret weapon
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 2009-01-15

A desire by both men to secure their places in history might forge an unlikely pairing.

BY RICK SANTORUM

Obama also faces the reality of needing at least one Republican senator to join him to break filibusters. Many speculate that three moderate Republicans will provide the necessary Senate votes and the imprimatur of bipartisanship.

. . . . .

But I believe Obama has an ace in the hole among Senate Republicans. This unlikely ace can deliver not only the GOP moderates needed to break a filibuster, but also the stamp of bipartisanship: the 2008 GOP standard bearer, John McCain.

. . . . .

In McCain's mind, however, losing the presidency will not be the final chapter of his life story. He knows the path to "Big Media" redemption. Working with the man who vanquished him in November will show them all the real McCain again.

I ask everyone in Arizona that should John McCain run for re-election, please, vote for someone else in the primary. If he survives the primary, vote for the Democrat.

McCain may be Obama's secret weapon

Well, he certainly was during the election.

McCain is THROUGH in Arizona!

That's what Freepers said about Lindsey Graham in 2007, after the amnesty escapades...and then many voted for him anyways.

“McCain may be Obama’s secret weapon”

For it to be a “secret” weapon, doesn’t it have to be a secret first?

McCain, Graham, et. al., will be Obama’s best buddy. They will finish off what’s left of the Republican Party. Bank on it.

McCain’s betrayal (”mutiny”) of his country and his party will soon be complete.

True. McCain aims to destroy the last vestiges of conservatism in gov't before he departs.

Sad, but true.

We need some conservatives in office, who are willing to fight for us! I know there are some, but we need more.

I think that after a year or two of Obama the worm will turn. But without leaders conservatives will have big problems no matter what.

I shudder to think how much damage will be done in the meantime. The average voter will just hear the words “bipartisan” and think everything is hunky-dory. The conservatives will be painted as “devisive.”

Bipartisanship is not a goal in itself. And it certainly isn’t good if both parties are headed in the wrong direction.

Can’t people see this?

ugh.

"THEY MUST BE DRUMMED OUT OF THE PARTY"

From all indications I think it is the conservatives being drummed out of the party. That's fine with me because as we leave so will our money.

Can you name a couple?

And Lieberman doesn't count.

He just needs one, but he has a slew who will be than willing to help: Collins, McCain (and his appendage, Graham), Specter, Snowe...

The Pubbies have been practicing their roll-over-and-capitulate for weeks now. They know that, if they try to stop anything or obstruct, they ARE going to be hit with the race card.
