I'll say this about GWB:

1. He was right on the most important issue of our time -- the War on Terror. He has won that war -- to date.

2. I disagree with virtually everything he's done the past two years. And much of what he did before.

3. Still, he's a good man. I've no doubt that, at every juncture, he did what he thought best for the USA.

I've voted for Presidents from 1964 forward. Where would Bush rank in that group of eight Presidents? Realistically, a solid #2.

Think about it...

The same was said about Carter for many years by members of both parties, but hardly ever anymore.

I've no doubt that, at every juncture, he did what he thought best for the USA.

I have no doubt that W did what was best for Mexico, Africa, and Iraq. He doesn't care much for the common American as Reagan did. He's an elitist and arrogant person who is often wrong and his cockiness prevented him from see his mistakes. He's ruined the GOP and the country.

All Americans have a right to be grateful to W for his perserverance on the WOT. Beyond that, his eight years was flawed greatly by surrounding himself with losers. George Tenet, Scott McClellan, Minettas??, Andy Card, Colin Powell, and others. Many of his servants served him and the nation poorly but W seemed to tolerate if not celebrate these people.

FDR was right on the most important issue of the day which was fascism. Doesn't mean I regard him highly as a president.

1 thing is absolutely certain:

Bush did what he honestly thought was right.

Despite lots of crying from Republicans on illegals, he held to his views on amnesty.

And despite lots of crying from liberals (including the powerful politicos), he stood firm on Gitmo and the war.

You can’t say, unlike certain other “men”, he ruled by polls.

I see your point.

I was originally a very strong W supporter, especially his handling of 9/11 and the WOT.

On the other hand, I am extremely disapointed with much he has done on the domestic front, and I agree in large part with Deroy Murdock.

On the third hand... I haven’t *voted* since 1964 (only since 74), but I can’t argue with you on your one-two pick. Reagan and W are clearly the top two during that period. (Nixon could fight W for the #2 spot if he hadn’t had that nasty dark side to him...)

But if you wait til ‘12 or ‘16 to evaluate, I really think that Obama will push W out of the #2 spot.

I pretty much agree with you, although Deroy makes some good points. I would have to say that Bush got the number one thing right, but he was a lukewarm conservative at best and his second term has been a disaster for the GOP.
