Editorials worldwide pillory Bush one final time Mon Jan 19, 2009 9:36am EST

By Erik Kirschbaum

BERLIN (Reuters) - Editorial writers around the world have been taking their final printed whacks at George W. Bush, accusing the president of tarnishing America's standing with what many saw as arrogant and incompetent leadership.

Some newspaper editorials, for all their criticism, suggested historians might just be kinder later on than those now writing first drafts of history. A success often cited by those seeking a silver lining was the United States' freedom from further homeland attacks following September 11.

Bush's successor, Barack Obama, will be sworn in as the 44th U.S. president on Tuesday.

"A weak leader, Bush was just overwhelmed in the job," said Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung under a headline: "The Failure." "He confused stubbornness with principles. America has become intolerant and it will take a long time to repair that damage."

Editorials hit out at Bush for two unfinished wars, for plunging the economy into recession, turning a budget surplus into a pile of debt, for his environment policies and tarnishing America's reputation with the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

Bush was given credit in some editorials for defending the United States against terror attacks after September 11, 2001.

I have been very critical of President Bush in his final months, but these people are just plain evil.

Take a second look at that sandal - another Muslim fanatic no doubt.

Pure evil, pure rage, pure hatred.

I believe their real hatred is of God.

Come on, this cannot be the final time. Why stop now? I suppose the novelty could wear off, but that could take years.

#####

So much wrong with that single, ignorant sentence.

Are Germans that utterly stupid these days?

Repair what damage? Our image in a world that despises us out of simple, base envy?

One FINAL time? I doubt they will restrain themselves, especially when Obomba starts messing up. First sign his administration is going in the crapper we will hear nothing but GWB being the cause of all the world’s problems.

Well, the entire leadership of Al Quida and the Taliban are hiding in holes in the gorund, afraid to show their miserable faces because they know a Predator or Reaper will bring Hell Fire down on their heads.

50+ million people have a chance at freedom that they would never have known without Bush's "incompetance".

... and the United States has not been hit again by major terror on his watch.

Most of his administration saw unprecedented economic gain despite these things, and it was only at the end, and then only due to the incompetence and corrupt activiteis of the liberal opposition in the main that the economy fell...despite warnings regarding the same.

I'd call Bush's terms positive in those regards despite my abject opposition to him myself in other areas (ie. immigration).

..and history will see it that way too ultimately despite these blow hard sap suckers.

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IN HIS OWN WORDS

NOW WE KNOW WHAT A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER DOES

OBAMA, THE STOCK MARKET, AND ENERGY

IT'S TIME FOR A RETURN TO THE OLD SCHOOL

An example of above content:

“No individual president can compare to the second Bush,” one historian wrote in that History News Network survey. “Glib, contemptuous, ignorant, incurious, a dupe of anyone who humors his deluded belief in his heroic self, he has bankrupted the country with his disastrous war and his tax breaks for the rich, trampled on the Bill of Rights, appointed foxes in every henhouse, compounded the terrorist threat, turned a blind eye to torture and corruption and a looming ecological disaster, and squandered the rest of the world’s goodwill. In short, no other president’s faults have had so deleterious an effect on not only the country but the world at large.”

As to what the editorial boards think; to quote the Pied Piper of Hamelin: “Who gives a rat’s ass?”.

What do they mean, this will be the final shot at George W. Bush. They will NEVER stop sniping, not forgiving of the very things that I would praise Dubya for, yet ignoring the very real (occasional) lapses in the judgment of a man who has never been other than endlessly vigilant in his eight years of service (yes, SERVICE in every sense of the word) to his country, land of his birth, and home of all his ideals and aspirations.

These United States of America may not be Heaven, but it gave the world at least a brief glimpse of what Heaven could be, at those rare moments when things worked relatively well, if only for a short period of time.

Those glimpses of Heaven are going to become much more rare over the coming years.

Europe has the very same problem we have. And that is a media more impressed with a Clinton than a Reagan. The people themselves, when given the opportunity to vote for a Reagan generally do. However, the media tends to stick their fingers in their ears and scream "Na, na, na, na, na, na, na," when someone tries to tell them the truth.

The media typically wouldn't know an honest truth if it hit them in their collective groins.

still be trashing Bush 35 years from now....

Probably. To the media and the other idiots, trashing Bush is a unifying “Feeling”...
The warm feeling of hatred...where one can focus all inadequacies, all fears, all failures and disappointments on one “communal” target. It must be right if we all feel the same.
Actually the common item is that they are all weak losers.
