But for one of those snapshots of Life After the Meltdown, consider the case of Edward M. Solomon, devoted grandfather, good neighbor, valued employee, now an accused bank robber and perhaps avatar of a new era of subprime crime — “Fun With Dick and Jane” minus Jane and minus the fun.
“This wasn’t exactly an ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ kind of crime,” Lt. Eric Johansen of the Peekskill Police Department said after Mr. Solomon was charged with brandishing a knife and making off with $5,900 in cash from a teller’s drawer at a Trustco Bank branch shortly after it opened on Jan. 16. He was arrested at his 23rd-floor Rockefeller Center office on Wednesday and charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree grand larceny.
Hey, times are tough and this is obviously part of his retirement plan..

Another defined benefit plan supported by the taxpayers. It probably includes free health care as well. Perhaps that's the new wrinkle in assisted living.
Your average "strong-arm" bank robbers (as opposed to those who engage in high-tech types of bank robbery) tend to be among the dumbest criminals around. They face prosecution under various local and Federal statutes, and it's rare for anyone to make off with more than a few thousand dollars in one of these heists.

Life can be funnier than the best sit com. This left winger used a knife in the robbery. No guns for NE liberals. Sounds like he was as effective as a bank robber as a financial adviser.

I'll bet that the standard of living and food in the Pen is a hell of a lot better than most retirement homes in this country..
