The Congressional Black Caucus is lobbying President Barack Obama to pick African-American technology executive John Thompson to be his commerce secretary.
Thompson is chairman and chief executive officer of Symantec Corp, the software security company best known for its Norton computer protection products. He is expected to step down in early April.
In a letter to Obama, the caucus members stressed that Thompson is the only African-American leading a major technology company.
The letter, sent last week and obtained Thursday by The Hill, also lists the seven black Cabinet members chosen by President Clinton during his two terms. Obama has selected four African-Americans for Cabinet positions.
We commend you for making diversity an important priority as you consider your Cabinet selections, in terms of race, perspectives, party and geography given past progress by other presidents in naming African-Americans to senior Cabinet posts, said the letter, signed by 38 of the 41 members of the CBC.

Most racist administration ever.
There is a difference.
I want him to explain why jobs were sent to India.
Just think all the uproar if a Congressional White Caucus pushed for a white “civil rights division” head.
The CBC is a racist organization

Flame Away but I would like to Obama appoint nothing but African-Americans to cabinet posts........
Democrat incompetence in running the government is colorblind ....
Ah yes, but its a black racist organization.
Do they remember what happened to the LAST Secy of Commerce who was black? They ought to be careful what they ask for.
Actually, the US is starting to look more African than American, interesting in that it is a minority that comprises only 13.5% of the population. I was hopeful that since Obama was elected, they would become just Americans, instead of African-Americans.
A black at Commerce? Ron Brown got done in, Pellosi wants mass abortion to snuff black babies and poor whites. Obama and Clinton are trying to capitulate the Israelis so the Arabs can slaughter them. God preserve us.
Lets see here.... Mr. Thompson? This is Mr. Lobowski from Dupem & Howe Financial. Your resume just came across my desk and I thought I’d give you a call. I’d like to talk with you about a fantastic opportunity here at Dupem & Howe. You’re resume is quite extensive and very impressive. I did a little quick research, talked with a couple of former colleagues and I must say, you come highly recommended. But, just one quick question before we go any further.... Are you black?
Reminds me of Dave Dinkins New York City.
Gee whiz, shouldn’t the black community be satisfied with Obamy being the President. Without a Birth Certificate ???
I heard that, as part of the pre-Super Bowl festivities, the NFL was hosting a party for all of the white cornerbacks in the league. They just haven’t decided in which phone booth to have it.
Commerce Secretary is a do-nothing job; when’s the last time you can recall the name of one or have heard that the president was urgently consulting the commerce secretary. So why would a high tech exec who just happens to be black want the job anyway? Give it to some unemployed Kennedy!
As long as it’s not a Republican senator from a state with a Dem governor—like New Hampshire. Because guess which party the replacement senator would be from?
Amazing you took the words right out of my mouth-almost word for word-I bow in reverence and awe.
More tokens, please.
