Rove now cooperating with Justice Dept.

Karl Rove is still stiff-arming Congress by refusing to testify in the U.S. Attorneys firing scandal -- but he has suddenly changed his tune about cooperating with federal prosecutors, TPMMuckraker's Murray Waas reports:

Rove will cooperate with a federal criminal inquiry underway into the firings of nine U.S. attorneys and has already spoken to investigators in a separate, internal DOJ investigation into the prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, his attorney said in an interview.

Rove previously refused to cooperate with an earlier Justice Department inquiry into the firings. The Justice Department's Inspector General and its Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) said in a report released last September detailing their earlier probe of the firings of the U.S. attorneys that their investigation was severely "hindered" by the refusal by Rove and other senior Bush administration officials to cooperate with the probe.

Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, said that Rove, however, will cooperate with a federal criminal probe of the firings being led by Nora Dannehy, the Acting U.S. Attorney for Connecticut who was selected by former Attorney General Michael Mukasey to lead the investigation. Dannehy has recently empaneled a federal grand jury to hear evidence in the matter.

Bush should have just fired them all, like Clinton did.

I’m guessing he’s simply following his attorney’s advice.

Former President Bush caused this mess, folk, when he didn’t walk out into the White House Press room and say ‘I hired them, I fired them, because I wanted to, and the Constitution allows it.’

The headline implies the Rove was not cooperating with the Justice Department before - when I think the case is that it was Justice that was not on board with the congressional investigation. Justice apparently has new orders.

Exactly right. Didn’t Clinton fire a bunch of attorneys too?

There’s no crime here. This is all BS show. It does not matter what the reason was to fire those DA’s. Sloppy eating or scratching their scalps that caused dandruff. Talk Rove it doesn’t matter.

“Exactly right. Didn’t Clinton fire a bunch of attorneys too?”

IIRC, he asked for the resignations of all U.S. Attorneys when he took office in 1993.

Thanks, I thought I remembered something like that.

I was only 22 at the time and not paying as much attention to politics as I do now. :)

When is Congress going to investigate Frank, Dodd, Reid (the list is much to long to print out) and all the other Democrats in Congress that think that only Republicans have to obey the law.

Some miss the point here. Most presidents fire the attys when they come in...both Bushes, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, etc. Bush fired his own appointees which is supposedly legal. There is a legal point being argued as to whether than can be fired for political reasons as is claimed. So this will flop around the courts as long as someone can make political hay out of it.

Exactly!

Even still, how can there be an investigation over something perfectly legal? Dem justice makes my head spin!

It’s a banana republic tactic - prosecute the loser of an election.

Make no mistake, the left will criminalize political/ideological opposition when they get the power to do so.

A criminal investigation... makes my head spin. If the left keeps going, there will eventually be no industry in this country because no one can hire or fire anyone.
