ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Thanks very much for sitting down with us today. Explain what happened today, Tom Daschle, you've let one of the most important domestic issues, which is health care, get caught up in what looks to many Americans like politics as usual.

BARACK OBAMA, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Well, I think what happened was that Tom made an assessment that having made a mistake on his taxes that he took responsibility for, and indicated was a mistake, made the assessment that he was going to be too much of a distraction in trying to lead what is going to be a very heavy lift, trying to deliver health care. Of course, he made a mistake and didn't know he owed $128,000. Hey, maybe he owes me some $ too and forgot about it...

I’m starting to take bets on when Obama’s approval rating drops below 50% for the first time.

Not sure when that is, but it will happen when enough people realize this guy has no idea what he’s doing

I think people voted for him knowing full well he wasn’t prepared for the job but figured he had advisors who would help him along until he found his sea legs.

It’s obvious to me his cohorts thought just the opposite, that HE knew what he wanted to do and would tell THEM how to pull it off.

His cabinet meetings must be grim. “So, anyone got any ideas on how to solve this...uh...um...economy thing?”

"Obama says Daschle "made a mistake" on his taxes."

Yup, just like his Father made one not buying a condom.

Was that too harsh?

The Secretary of the Treasury didn’t have to pay taxes till nominated.

What gives? Why give Tommy such a hard time?

I think we should all get a pass. I have no problem with this.

Yes, it was too harsh.

His mother should have had an abortion, being a single mother and all that... the burden could have been lifted from her. Big mistake.

Zero is struggling worse than any president has ever done and he hasn’t even been in office a full month. Not even the media can keep up with putting this humpty dump back together again.

I’m willing to bet that some of Obama’s supporters feel like they have “made a mistake” too..by voting for him in the first place

Well, I was taking into account abortion was illegal back in 47".

My guess is she did have some dresses hanging in the closet.

Liberal do not sin, but they can err.

I once heard a guy at his sentencing hearing for murder say he’d made a mistake and he was sorry.

Sheesh.

Felony dumb

I hope anyone audited remembers to say like Daschle they simply made a mistake—that should get a laugh at the IRS.

I read a letter to the editor of the local paper that said just that. The guy said he wanted change but not for the worse. LOL

OK, he made a mistake. That means he is stupid, doesn’t understand the tax laws, and doesn’t read what he signs.

Therefore, he is qualified to be Secretary of the Treasury?
