Earl Fontan has received tons of invitations over the years.
But a recent one trumped them all.
In early January, Earl and his family were asked if they could attend a White House reception in honor of Fontans fallen son, Jacques.
Jacques, a Navy SEAL, was killed in Afghanistan four years ago during a rescue mission, Operation Redwings.
The MH-47 Chinook helicopter carrying Jacques and 15 others was shot down by enemy fire on June 28, 2005.

Agreed, this it what passes for journalism these days. But the tone of the article was nicely presented.
On another thread, there was a poster talking about all the military people who are (or were) anti-Bush.
I couldn’t have disagreed more. In all my encounters with military people, active duty, reserve, retired or whatever, the vast majority supported the President, and many liked him.
Even with all of his apparent faults in many areas of policy, he respected the military and what they do, and it was evident. The fact that his policies consigned many of our military to long, multiple deployments with the accompanying separations and strains and he was still able to garner support from so many of them speaks volumes to me.
God Bless and Protect President Bush in his retirement.
Thank you for posting the story. I’m glad that Earl Fontan finds comfort in the United States Navy’s keeping of his son’s memory.
If you are also a Navy SEAL (please pardon my ignorance), I thank you sincerely for your service.
This story was part of another story. He was sent to rescue the “Lone Survivor” of a 4 man Seal team.
The book “Lone Survivor” is an amazing story of bravery and survival by one of our finest.
I HIGHLY recommend reading it.
The 16 were shot down in an attempt to rescue one...amazing men, these SEAL’s
I encourage all to read LONE SURVIVOR that tells the story on June 28 2005. It’s remarkable. I’ve had the honor of meeting the fathers of Lt. Michael Murphy and Major Stephen Reich, who were both killed that horrible day. Michael was the Naval SEAL given the Medal of Honor. Stephen was the Chinook pilot and USMA graduate(1993)whose craft suffered an RPG attack as he was unloading about 10 SEALS to rescue Murphy and his three comrades. They are heroes all. May we never forget their ultimate sacrifice is service of our Constitution and freedom.
I attended the reception as well. We were invited along with about 40 other families. President Bush spent about 10 minutes privately with each family. People can say what they want about President Bush but I was very grateful for the invite. The prayer he said with my wife, for my stepson Tyler, has done more to heal her pain than anything else I could have ever asked for. May God always bless that man.
Agreed re: Bush...
May God always Bless that man.
Thank you for all you did for our country, Mr. President.
