Salazar going Hollywood?
DDN ^ | February 6, 2009 | Peter Marcus

Colorado’s Ken Salazar is facing his first major backlash as Secretary of the Interior.

A national civil rights group says Salazar is “going Hollywood on us” and caving into actor Robert Redford’s demands that American oil and gas leases in Utah be cancelled. He is also being accused of going counter to the spirit of economic stimulus by cancelling the leases.

Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) says higher energy prices will result from the decision to scrap the leases of 77 parcels of land for oil and gas drilling in Utah’s Redrock country. The group believes low-income families feel the effects of higher energy prices more so than any other income class.

“The losers are working parents, single mothers and elderly folks all over America, who count on abundant and affordable natural gas from states like Utah to remain employed, keep warm and stay alive,” said CORE spokesman Niger Innis.

Redford passionately criticized a lease auction held last December in which 77 parcels, totaling 130,000 acres, were put up for auction. The sales were worth $6 million to the government. But Salazar on Wednesday ordered the Bureau of Land Management to not cash checks from winning bidders.

At the heart of the decision is a lawsuit filed by environmental groups. A federal judge put the sale of the 77 parcels on hold pending the outcome of the lawsuit — but Salazar took it a step further by refusing to sell any of the parcels until the new administration reviews the details...

Some say cancelling the leases runs counter to the purpose of stimulating the economy...

CORE believes Salazar caved under pressure by extremist environmental groups.

Just what we need, some @$$hole from California dictate how us people in Colorado and Utah live. They Hollywood actors don’t know their heads from their @$$es and should stick to their profession - acting and stay out of politics. They don’t care if prices skyrocket but it shows their disdain toward the common person.

Knowing the caliber of this administration’s cabinet, Salazar is probably helping out his own oil & gas buddies. I’ll bet the enviros are just useless idiots in this story. OK, they’re useless idiots in most stories...you get it.

This area of Utah and NM need the stimulus of the gas exploration and production. The decline of gas prices is already going to put a lot of people out of work..this won’t help.
I really can’t think of a single policy of the RATS that is good for our economy. Not one of my Rat friends has been able to come up with one either..they just get back to “fairness”, climate change etc.

Have you noticed?
Saladbar only wears his cowboy hat when in Washington.
When he is in Colorado you hardly ever see him wearing it.

Higher gas(ENERGY)prices only tax the poor, anyone that drive a car or heats their house or uses a computer...

I don’t get this.

Democrats have been against new oil and gas drilling leases, because they said oil companies weren’t using the leases they already had. This was part of the debate of whether we should be drilling more domestically. But now, they want to cancel these leases that they complain the oil companies haven’t used yet???????

Does any of this make sense?

I don’t get this, because won’t cancelling leases mean that there are fewer places to explore for oil and gas, and make it more likely that we will import more oil? What will Redford think the next time gas prices spike sky high, if we haven’t made any more progress to produce more domestic energy?

Why is energy development in this country being determined by Robert Redford?

Does any of this make sense? Absolutely Not

I don’t get this, because won’t cancelling leases mean that there are fewer places to explore for oil and gas, and make it more likely that we will import more oil? Most Certainly.

What will Redford think the next time gas prices spike sky high, if we haven’t made any more progress to produce more domestic energy? Robert Redford could care less.

If I’m not mistaken, this website is part of Media Matters, a leftist organization at http://mediamatters.org/ The Colorado site is their way of moving into local/state politics.

Just thought you would want to know.

Michael Bennet, a neophyte who has never actually been elected to any office before. He left his job as superintendent of Denver Public Schools to replace that POS Salazar. Dick Wadhams, republican chair in Colorado, is licking his chops over the 2010 election.
