WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maine's Susan Collins says time is getting short as House and Senate negotiators reach for a final deal with the White House on economic stimulus legislation.
Conferees from the two chambers today agreed to pare the measure to below $800 billion.
The $838 billion Senate bill that cleared earlier this week had the backing of only three of 41 Republicans -- but that was enough to give it the 60 votes it needed. Collins and fellow Mainer Olympia Snowe were among those who broke ranks with most Republicans.
Collins told reporters today that she hopes other GOP lawmakers would reconsider when the final compromise comes to a vote, rather than -- in her words -- "just reflexively oppose this."
She said the negotiators had "tightened and scrubbed it" to eliminate wasteful spending.

Everyone who is smart enough to vote on this later on will not consider three RINOs votes as “bipartisan”. It will, however, be made into sound bites for the masses.
I suspect whatever cuts were made will not really come to pass. I can remember Bush Elder being suckered by the Dems into signing a bill that included both tax cuts and tax increases and, somehow, those tax cuts just never happened.
What Pub would want to join these traitors.

She is yammering Rat talking points in an attempt to damage her own party and prop up this irresponsible, immoral, Gov’t expansion, future generation enslavement bill. The above line sounds like something out of the mouth of Pelosi/Reid/Zero!

Simple question, is there any impending crisis or deadline or collapsing market which anyone can document, and which requires that a bill be passed this week as opposed to next month?
Politicians just say things because they think it sounds good to justify their actions.
