Alter Rejects Notion GOP Stimulus Opposition is Principled, Blames Politics

How could anyone take a principled stand against the $789 billion economic stimulus bill? Any opposition to this massive expansion of the federal government must be sheer political posturing. Or so said Newsweek magazine's Jonathan Alter.

Alter said on MSNBC's Feb. 11 "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" that congressional Republicans oppose the stimulus bill based on an ill-conceived, low-percentage bet that the proposal would fail.

"Well, they're betting on the 30 percent chance, as Joe Biden put it, that it's not going to work," Alter said. "Then they can say, ‘I told you so, it didn't do any good.'"

Is this the new left-wing talking point - GOP Opposes Stimulus Due to Fear of Primary Challengers? What a d-bag.

Okay, Mr. Alter, answer this question. Why did the dems want republicans “with them” on this bill?

In Obama's America, dissent is no longer the highest form of patriotism.

Alter is such a mealy mouthed putz. How can anybody assume that opposition to a bill this MASSIVE is only political positioning?

...and what about that “30% chance” that it doesn’t work? Is it worth saddling the country for generations when there is only a chance of success?

...exactly - if it is such a great bill, the best possible scenario for the Dem's is zero Republican support. Then the democratic party can have all the credit to themselves. How obvious of a scam does this have to be for the moderate GOP'ers to actually get this? Walk away from the process...let the Dem's OWN it...by asking to be let in on "negotiations" you are only providing cover for their self-serving pork.

What principles do Alter and Olbermann have? My guess is, they just say anything they feel like saying.

Alter is as dumb as a rock. Everything to him is right versus left with the left being the goods guys. What a tool.

More like a 100% chance that it will provide Obama with some results that he and the sycophantic media can milk for political cover, ignoring the fact that we will pay for it spades down the road.

Actually, Alter is correct on this point. Even a blind squirrel ...

Most of the Republicans in Congress have been in there since before 2000. They were spending freaks under Bush, so they’ve lost their credibility trying to act like “fiscal conservatives”.

Maybe they’ve finally found their “acorns”, but I don’t think it’s because they’re going back to their roots. IMO it’s political - I welcome it, but it’s still political to them.

“In Obama’s America, dissent is no longer the highest form of patriotism.” (bears repeating)

Taking it a step further, in Obama’s and Biden’s Administration, judging from his appointees, PAYING THEIR LEGAL TAXES is no longer the highest form of patriotism as “Foot n’ Mouth” Joe stated recently.

I think these guys are hilarious. If the GOP could have stopped the bill they would be angry, now since only 3 old RINOs have helped them pass the bill, they are still angry.

They wanted so much for the pubbies to take the heat for this scam.

Enjoy it guys. Remember that old cliche, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”? Think about it.

Olberfurher is digging at the bottom of the barrel trying to find anyone who will convince the American people that the Obamasiah is for real.

I don’t really care whether it’s principled on their part or if it’s just rank politicizing. The bill is a disaster and needs to be opposed on any grounds that can be found.

But besides all this, it’s still a fact that the majority of house Republican’s opposed the bailout last fall.

I never watch MSNBC except for brief seconds as I use the remote flipping through stations to get to Fox News. But three weeks into Obambam’s presidency I was flipping through stations again to get to Fox and briefly saw Keith Olberman shouting with that hysterical female look in his face and he was throwing his crumpled balls at the camera and ex-President Bush! I thought to myself, “Hey Keith, I know it’s news to you, but Bush is gone. Isn’t there ONE THING that Obama has done in three weeks that would make you throw a crumpled ball at him?”

;)

If the stimulus bill was so great..the market would not be headed to a new low. It has dropped nearly 600 pts. since the stimulus Bill was passed by the House.
If investors don’t like it, why should Congress?

I predict Osama bin Olberman’s ratings will require a CSI team to find in less than a year. And MSLSD is stuck with this clown and Screwball Matthews for quite awhile.

It’s funny, but if either Rush or Levin announced they were interested in a daily TV show, MSLSD would KILL to get either one of them.

Do the math Jonathan. If it’s such a great bill then pass it already.

The economically illiterate are driving this debate.

Markets around the world are down this week. The Dow is down again today. When people have to put up hard out of pocket money, rather than hot air, they're betting Porkulus won't work. That's a lot more than a 30% chance of failure.
