Cantor Emerges as GOP Voice

With members of both parties gathered at the White House for Monday's summit on fiscal responsibility, President Obama was asked whether he'll continue his outreach to Republicans. Eric Cantor Emerges as GOP Voice

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Va. It is hoped that the Virginia Republican will bring unity to the party -- and hope to Obama for bipartisanship.

He didn't have to scan the crowd to settle on a member of Congress he could single out to make his point.

"I'm going to keep on talking to Eric Cantor," the president said.

"Some day, sooner or later, he is going to say, 'Boy, Obama had a good idea,'" he added, prompting some laughter. "It's going to happen. You watch, you watch."

Any personnel recommendations made by nobama to the pubbies should not stand.

Cantor is a wuss. Read this excerpt from another article:

The change [a "Doctrinal Shift"] is already happening. Last night on Fox, Sean Hannity asked House Republican Whip Eric Cantor whether the president's "massive amount of spending…is capable of getting us out of the economic downturn we now find ourselves in?" It was a perfect opportunity for Cantor to tee off on the spending excesses in the stimulus. Instead, he said, "Well, Sean, if you're talking about the stimulus plan that was passed, I'm trying to put the debate behind us. We are where we are…"
Just a few weeks ago, House Republicans cheered and high-fived each other for unanimously opposing the stimulus. Now, having realized they won the soundbite contest but lost the war, they don't want to talk about it. That is a major shift indeed.
That's horrible. Soft, squishy, whinning. If this is the best the pubbies have, we really ARE in trouble. But that's okay because Cantor is now nobama's pet.

A better response from Cantor would have been, "Hell no!! No person or government has EVER spent themselves out of debt. More debt is the very last thing we need now."

Made record donations to Republicans in ‘08. It’s time to burn the village to save it. Time for a new party.

I heard some other GOPer (forgot who, but not Cantor) use the exact same phrase the other day. It's the newest assigned talking point.

Not a good sign.

Cantor is my Congressman. He has been truly outstanding in a lot of areas in the past.

He supported the FIRST bail-out, when GWB was still president. I lambasted him mercilessly for it and even wrote in my own name on the ballot for his office in the last election. I eventually received a two page letter from him in which he almost, but not quite, admitted that I was right about the first bail-out.

His vocal opposition to the recent bail-outs (frankly, I’m losing track of how many there are/have been in the last couple weeks) have gotten me to the point of being just about ready to forgive him and throw him my support (such as it is) once again.

It IS a bit disturbing, though, to see/hear him shy away from blasting our current Buffoon in Chief every chance he gets. We are, after all, in a WAR; with the social and economic fate of our nation hanging in the balance. We need to work hard to defeat the forces of national socilaism every chance we get, and every where we can, throughout this country.

Great. Just what we need. We need ABC news to chose our GOP leaders! I’d say that DISQUALIFIES them.

This morn I was thinking quite much the same thing. Though I'm now in Randy Forbes' dist I used to be in Cantor's, and cannot fathom why the Rs are being so taciturn in light of what Obama is attempting to do.
One explanation proffered recently is that the Rs were advised to publicly rebuke Pelosi, Reid et al rather than a 'popular' President. Nonsense, in my opinion.

You are so right. The last President really neutered the GOP with his "New Tone" jazz. Every day the same wimpy bipartisan talking point.

The GOP would be wise to remember the definition of insanity in this case. It ain't working, you people!

I don’t know who that other guy in the background of the Cantor pic is, but it looks like he’s thinking, “what the hell is he talking about?”

Sounds like that hits it on the head, imo. Obviously, they're doing this.

We really need a smackdown. Anybody out there?

The last TWO GOP presidents contributed about equally to the neutering of the PARTY, in my opinion.

What were their NAME gain?

“It IS a bit disturbing, though, to see/hear him shy away from blasting our current Buffoon in Chief every chance he gets.”

Though I, too, would’ve preferred Cantor give a more aggressive statement, I strongly believe there’s some strategic messaging going on here. It’s still honeymoon time for 0bama; 60% still support him. When that support dries up, and we know it will at some time in the near future, the battle lines will be starkly drawn. Cantor’s words seem squishy right now, but there will be plenty of time to go on the attack, and I believe he will.
