CHARLOTTE, N.C. An Atlanta investment banker is auctioning off more than 15,000 videotaped episodes of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's iconic Christian talk show.
"The PTL Club," which aired from 1974 to 1987, featured Jim Bakker offering upbeat sermons from a couch and Tammy Faye, wearing her trademark heavy mascara, singing about Jesus. Most episodes were taped at their empire which included a hotel, campground and theme park just south of Charlotte....
The 15,069 hourlong tapes went to a Charlotte church, then a cable content provider...
The cable provider defaulted on a loan from Dyer's company and he got the tapes, which he plans to auction in San Francisco on March 27....
...the tapes have been appraised at around $8 million.
Remember when 8 million dollars was a lot of money? In the Era of Bari the Kenyan, anything not in the billions or trillions is just chump change.
Why would anyone in his/her right mind want to watch that crap?
Or pay good money for it?
Sheesh!
Oh please, let this die! Leave that which is dead alone. Thankfully, I never could stommach the show, it never rang true for me. But for those who were taken in, this is an unnescessary resurrection of a lot of pain and betrayal, yet for more profiting.
I hate the newspaper and MSM media. They love to use the word “iconic” to death. They mention their “iconic” show? What does that mean?
These greedy shills like Tammy and Jim do more harm to Christianity.
Maybe the goverment is going to buy it and torture people with it when they start rounding up the guns and gold.
I’ve seen his new show on TCT & he’s clearly a lib/leftist plant.
I’d love to buy these tapes for maybe $10 a pop, for academic analysis... but $8 million?! No way. Maybe their estate will buy them up to destroy the evidence.
Hank Williams Jr. says in one of his songs that “they” say send you’re dollars to Jesus “and they give you THEIR address.”
So, I’m wondering.....who would pay money to watch Tammy Baye Faker?
That's exactly right. They represent an important historical record. But they won't sell for much, because only rich fans are willing to pay large amounts for such trophies, so they can make their fellow admirers envious. I doubt whether the Bakkers have any remaining fans, let alone rich ones.
Maybe Huckabee will step in and buy them.
He's still up to his old tricks.
You gotta go with what works I guess. Wonder if he'll stay out of the slammer this time?
"There's one born everyday"..
Once a con always a con. These people and people like him are the low of the low. Separate the little old ladies and men from their cash and property.
Believe it or not, my husband and I were saved through this show. Of course, our journey did not end there, we wend directly to the Bible and were taught by the Holy Spirit but no not discount the power of God to use anything He chooses to draw sinners to Jesus.
It was easy, even as we watched that they were not doing right, but the call was there and Praise the Lord, we answered.
That said, I would not choose to rewatch 5 min of those shows.
On one of our trips we stayed at a Mom & Pop run motel just across the street from Jim Bakker's new church digs. The hard working wife of the hotel proprietor said they USED to attend services there but quit.
It was when Jim Bakker made a plea for women from his flock to volunteer weekly to help his wife clean their house that she got up and left..for good.
About the only use full thing for these tapes.
