Pickering votes for Earth Hour
The lights go out March 28
Mar 02, 2009 - 03:09 PM

PICKERING -- The City of Pickering is one of 680 cities across the globe already committed to turning the lights out for Earth Hour.

At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, the City will turn off non-essential lighting at all municipal buildings where feasible for one hour. This year's campaign is featuring "the first global election between Earth and global warming."

Basically, those who switch off their lights will be voting for Earth, and those who leave them on will vote for global warming. The results will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

Pickering Council decided at its latest meeting to vote for Earth in Earth Hour 2009.

Mayor Dave Ryan, in a press release, said by participating in Earth Hour, it's a great way for Pickering to continue to lead the way in sustainability.

"Earth Hour is a brilliant campaign that has resonated with millions of people globally," he said. "However, if we are to become true agents of change, we must incorporate these types of actions into our everyday lives."

Pickering is encouraging all households, businesses and institutions to participate in the event as part of the Sustainable Pickering Challenge. To register or for more information, visit www.earthhour.org.

i.e., they won't turn off anything but will feel proud of their good intentions.

...where feasible...

In other words: Offer Lip Service, but engage in business as usual.

What a bunch of hypocritical lib-tards.

And if the vote is "for global warming", then the GCCC will disband, go away, and shut up, right?

Right?

I’m toying with the idea of getting a cheap strobe light for the front window-to help draw attention to the fact that every other light is also on.

Me too! PLUS I was going to open the balcony doors wide, turn on the heat, and blast out some Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ for my neighbors to hear.

Wait, I feel guilty. Our planet is sick and I want to help. To that end, I hope that all of America will join me in shutting off all electricity everytime Obama is on TV hawking his Socialists policies. It’s for the children!

I just blew the breaker on my power strip running a heater under the desk. Time to upgrade the circuits.

Did you flush? Gotta remember to save water too, flush only after 3 or 4 uses.
