I think the woman was confronted about the missing money and they ended up coming up with this car theft scheme.

This is bizarre in the extreme. If you owned a business and found out your controller was embezzling money would you then allow her to involve you in a scheme to cover it up by illegally selling off your inventory? Something is not kosher here. There is more to this relationship (all three of them) than meets the eye

Patch had financial problems, too, so it might not have been too hard for her to talk him into it.
