SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- The U.S. has rejected a Guantanamo prisoner's proposal to end his 3 1/2-year hunger strike in exchange for easing his conditions at the American prison in Cuba, saying such a deal would undermine security and encourage similar protests.

A federal judge in Washington had urged U.S. authorities to consider the proposed deal in the case of Ahmed Zuhair, a Saudi prisoner who has refused to eat since the summer of 2005 and is force-fed a liquid nutrient mix to keep him alive.

Here’s a thought. Stop force-feeding him. If he doesn’t want to eat, he doesn’t eat.

An IRA guy starved himself in a British prison 20+ years ago for political reasons. And then he died. Within a few weeks, nobody cared.

Let the SOB kill himself if he wants.

...and is force-fed a liquid nutrient mix to keep him alive.

What a ridiculous waste of time and resources. If the terrorist wants to starve, let him.

That goes for the rest of the terrorists as well.

Give him the food. If he doesn’t want to eat it, that’s his business. The idea of force feeding him is ludicrous. Whoever made that decision needs reassignment.

3 1/2-year hunger strike

That's got to be some weird hunger strike if he's still alive 3.5 years later.

You don't suppose he cheated, do you?

Must be a Jessie Jackson hunger strike 3 plus years, shouldn’t be much left of him.

Turn the bastard over to the Saudis, as long as they agree in advance to behead him.

Exactly on target, there is really no reason for the “news” of his hunger strike to even be reported.

If the jailors at Gitmo think that its in our benefit to keep him alive, no real problem with forcefeeding him or anyone else.

But controlling the propaganda has got to be more of a priority.
