The Escalator of Life Is Going Down
Seeking alpha ^ | March 20, 2009 | James Quinn

Americans have been on the escalator of life for the last 30 years.
The escalator has been going up for the vast majority of that time.
Since Ronald Reagan was President, the escalator has been moving upwards with only a few momentary breakdowns.
We wanted it all. We believed it was our right to have it all.

Americans did whatever it took to have it all. That meant an explosion of household debt promoted by bankers, the Federal Reserve, politicians, the media, and Presidents.

We were dancing on the escalator of life ...

A great detailed, but concise look at what exactly is happening and where it is going. - right now
An easy and interesting read, the author takes swipes at both parties, but a big one at Socialism, and what is going to happen to you in the next year or two.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac went from providing liquidity to the mortgage markets so that average Americans could buy a house to a Democratic Party tool used to provide mortgage loans to poor Democratic constituents so they could win more votes in the next election.

A must read, fellow Freepers!

Our government decided deficit spending was a great plan. And then We The People followed in kind.

The American people are at a crossroads.
It’s our lives, not the governments.
The country is headed on a path toward government running everything in our lives.

Now is the time to stand tall.

Barack Obama, Ben Bernanke, and Nancy Pelosi can not make us spend money we don’t have.
We can force the painful restructuring of our economy on our politician leaders.

They can stimulate, print, and urge you to spend, but we don’t have to listen.

We can throw them out of office in 2012.

If the new set of clueless morons doesn’t do what is right, we can throw them out too.

We must heed the warning of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson.

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

Depressing article but it rates bonus points for using a Robert Hazard (RIP) song title!

Through all of this we keep hearing about the loss of faith and confidence in institutions....but oddly enough the list of untrusted institutions never seems to reach government.

Is it because it’s a given or is it because so many people (including the so-called greatest generation) STILL have a blind spot when it comes to Washington?

Europeans wanted it all too. They didn’t get it and still are in the same deep shit. Guess we did much better thanks to Reagan and had some fun along the ride. This is a great country.

But the Escalator of Life has been going down for a long time.

God created Adam in the image of God; to have complete dominion over the earth. He could stand up in a boat during a storm and say, “Peace! Be still!.” and the wind and the sea would obey him (controlling the weather!).

Then he and his wife fell for a sort of Nazi-Obama-Socialist sales pitch from - of all things - a snake - and he lost all that Dominion over the earth.

Been going down, down, down ever since. Still going down. Can’t even influence the weather.

While this is going to crush our country and cause untold pain, I am glad it is happening. We have strayed too far from what makes this country a great one. I do not believe this is all from greed, it is beyond greed; it is hedonism. We have become so immoral, so vulgar so self absorbed, that if this ship rights itself (which I doubt) prior to the complete return to our value system, we will only embolden the system in place now.

The tree of liberty has gone dry, it is thirsty. This country was founded on the Judeo-Christian value system. Our constitution cannot exist without that value system. Since we have decimated those values in this last generation or 2, we should fully expect a generation or 2 before we can correct it. It will take people committed to revaluing this society toward faith by bringing up godly children and refocusing on that which is truly important in this life. Unfortunately, a large majority of Americans need to be stripped of all they currently cling to in order to learn to cling to the cross of Christ once again. Only then will this begin to turn around.

I, for one, will put my faith in Christ to give me the grace to endure as He has promised that he would never give us more than we can handle. He never said anything about singing, skipping and dancing merrily along to the end, He said take up your cross and follow me. We as a nation have done way too much singing skipping and dancing. We are unaccustomed to taking up a cross. We are about to remember the other side of all the feel good theology spouted by the health and wealth preachers in this nation. The wrath of God is a discussion all to often ignored. God will always give us a long enough rope to hang ourselves, only so he can swoop in and save those who call out to him in their hour of desperation. There have been precious few hours of desperation in the last 40 years that we as a nation have had to endure (9/11 being the most serious and it only lasted for a few months and then all went back to normal).

We are a nation of hedonists, and these trying economic times will show peoples true colors. Mine are red white and blue, and they are firmly draped over the cross of salvation.

5 million of us need to show up in DC to discuss this problem with our government. That might, just might get their attention.

I am not glad is happening, but rather of the opinion that it was bound to happen.

I am glad this is happening, in the same way Jesus was glad that he was going to the cross. When he fell, he reminded his mother, in her absolute agony, Look Mother, I make all things new.

That is what we, as Americans and Christians need to do. Embrace our Cross, and allow Him to make all things new. Being glad is by no means singing and dancing in happiness. It is a realization that God loves us enough to chastise us and right this country. Have you ever prayed for God to heal our nation? Have you ever asked Jesus to guide our leaders? If so, you, like me are seeing the hand of God bring his mercy, as well as his justice to our land. Be glad, for a Father will only chastise a beloved child and we NEED a chastisement.......

Unless we were fully armed, they wouldn't notice us.

Of course unarmed, Harry Reid may notice the bad smell of unwashed peasants, then direct his staff to turn up the air-conditiong a bit more......
