I love to listen to Rush Limbaught and iheartradio has released a free application that allows most Blackberry users to listen to their local AM radio stations. I now find out that either iheartradio or T-Mobile has discriminated against me by not allowing me to download a free application to my T-Mobile Blackberry 8320.

You need a teenager who knows how to override that kind of block.

Best advice... don't ask FReepers for advice. There is very seldom any consensus of opinion.

1) Get rid or the Blackberry and get a Windows Mobile phone. My current phone is the HTC Touch Pro with Sprint.

2) Get an unlimited data plan.

3) You won’t need a special application, just go to the radio station’s website and click on the “Listen over the Internet” button.

I listen to Rush 24/7, Mark Levin, Michael Savage, etc. all on Kinoma FreePlay for Windows Mobile. In: Kinoma Guide->News & Politics/Conservative Talk

The neat thing about it is it’s the on-demand streams, any time, any where.

And you can get worldwide radio stations, etc.

All for free.

I hate to say it, but you’re completely wrong about this issue, and so is everyone else posting. First some background: I have worked for T-Mobile in the past and I currently work for RIM, the makers of Blackberry devices, and I’d like to set the record straight. I’d like to point a couple of things out for you that should be painfully obvious, even for people who haven’t worked in the cellular industry.

1) Neither T-Mobile or RIM can block one specific application.
2) On iheartmusic’s website, there is a list of compatible devices. Did you think to check this first before blaming two highly successful corporations of going after you?

On that FAQ is a list of supported devices. To make it easy for you, I’ll post it here, verbatim:
“Models currently supported:
BlackBerry Bold 9000
BlackBerry Curve 8900
BlackBerry Curve 8350i
BlackBerry Curve 8330
BlackBerry Curve 8310
BlackBerry Curve 8300
BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230
BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220
BlackBerry Pearl 8130
BlackBerry Pearl 8100”

I’d like to note how the 8320 is not on the list. The 8320 is not the same as the 8350i, the 8330, the 8310, or the 8300. There’s a reason they have different model numbers. In addition, they specifically point this out - “3. BlackBerry Curve on T-Mobile is currently not supported.”

It is literally the first question under Installation and Compatibility, which is more than easy to read if you had done 30 seconds of your own research first to see if your device was even supported.

I’d also like to point out that the 8900 is on the list. That devices is currently ONLY available from T-Mobile, further proof that they don’t care what you do with your device.

3) Carriers do not care what you do with your device unless you’re trying to take the network down (you’re clearly not capable of this). What they do care about is data usage because that is highly profitable. So they have a financial incentive for you to do this. I promise you, T-Mobile wants you to have this application and pay for the data plan.

4) Finally, do you have a corporate device? If you do, it is highly likely that your company’s IT department put an IT policy on the device blocking all 3rd party apps. This isn’t the issue, but even if you have a compatible device, it could be blocked by your company, just not T-Mobile or RIM (unless of course you work for either company).

So there you have it. It is not T-Mobile or RIM’s issue, as they both have an interest in you doing what you claim they are blocking. All you need is a compatible device. The only group doing the “discrimination” you’re so concerned about is iheartmusic, because they haven’t written a 8320 version. Please do you research and get your facts straight next time.

Also, the Kinoma FreePlay suggested does not currently support Blackberry devices.

Thank you for setting me straight. I failed to mention that I’m Polish in addition to being retired. I thought I could read too — apparently not. Thank you, sir!!!!!!!!!!

No problems, please check next time though because there are conservatives at those companies who don’t enjoy having them attacked.
