Barack Obama is under fire after replacing his estranged pastor Jeremiah Wright with a new circle of religious confidantes whose views are dramatically at odds with some of his political goals.
The president is now taking spiritual guidance from no less than five different pastors, whom he phones for advice at moments of stress or when making big decisions.
But a year after the incendiary rantings of Rev Wright threatened to derail Mr Obama's presidential campaign, revelation of the "dial-a-prayer" sessions has prompted critics to declare that he has a new "pastor problem".
Four of the president's inner circle of religious counsellors have drawn the ire of gay rights groups since they are opposed to equal rights for homosexuals and in some cases believe that they can be cured of their "sin" through prayer.
Others are concerned that the five preachers, ostensibly selected because they share Mr Obama's view that the church should help tackle poverty at the grassroots level, include two Texas megachurch pastors who preach that personal wealth is a sign of Godliness.
The prayer circle is overwhelmingly opposed to abortion, a position at odds with Mr Obama's "anything goes" pro-choice stance, arguably the most liberal of any president in US history.
Mr Obama has handed huge influence to Bishop T.D. Jakes, Kirbyjon Caldwell, Joel Hunter, Jim Wallis and civil rights veteran Otis Moss Jr, in part, because he and wife Michelle have failed to settle on a new church in Washington to replace the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago which they abandoned last year.
White House sources say that the family have not yet found a congregation that meets their theological requirements and is big enough to cope with the disruption of frequent presidential visits and the likely swell in congregation that would accompany the

Even Obama, with his huge ego, needs spiritual support. I highly doubt God is the one he’s appealing to.
“”that meets their theological requirements “”
Which would cover anything that isn’t Christian! He has to put on a show of being one and tho’ we are not supposed to make judgments on this, it’s very apparent. The man believes in whoever is pulling his strings.
Perhaps he’s frantic about his security, realizing that his puppet masters might toss him aside after he forgot who was really in charge.
Wonder when American journalists will wake up and realized their being u.p.s.t.a.g.e.d.
The Telegraph is our new AMERICAN news source!
Anyone that bases their choice of which church to attend based on the recommendation or condemnation of gay activist groups has more problems than just picking a church.
Oh I’m sure some where in the White House, there’s a mirror big enough for Barak to gaze at himself and worship until his heart is content.
The only church 0 an michelle will find that will meet their theological requirements is the church of obama which he will undoubtedly found sooner rather than later since it is nothing less than worship the big 0 needs.
This story is slightly at odds with one I read that claimed Obama routinely spoke with Episcopal Bishop Robinson. I wonder if these five preachers really know who is on the other end of the line when “Obama calls.”
He’s the IOTUS! (Idiot Of The United States)
Obama is just one huge facade. The reason he picks ANY religious persons is so he can attempt to control those of us who are believers through guilt and manipulation.
It's just a shame that this pithy remark is too long for a tagline. It's stellar.
The only reason he joined Wright’s church was political expediency.
Probably so that he can at least get the answer he wants from one of them.
“White House sources say that the family have not yet found a congregation that meets their theological requirements...”
Maybe that is because their are not any churches that preach “G-D America in the DC area. Also, even if there were, he would not be able to get away with going there. I’ll bet he probably still “attends” Wright’s church. A lot of those big churches have their services available on the internet.
IIRC in the weeks just before his inauguration the Obamas visited the (?) 19th Street Baptist Church in inner-city DC and the MSM inferred he was making this his church home ... nothing since ... security concerns?
Disregarding for a moment the individuals involved and whatever odd religious beliefs they may have, if I were president I don’t think I’d have a “church home” as much as I would have a small number of pastors I could call upon for regular spiritual advice.
The practicality of that is that there will be no “president’s minister” who might cause political liabilities. A rotation of ministers minimizes each in terms of their visibility and connection to the administration, yet will still serve the president’s spiritual needs.
Then I heard about this last week and wondered - so just where do his children get their spiritual guidance? Does he put the clergy he speaks to on the speaker phone in the Oval Office so Michelle and the girls attend also?
What kind of parents are these two? What values are they holding? They rush to put up a swing set on the WH lawn for the girls, but fail to give them any access to Sunday religious services. They make a big issue about getting a new dog for them. But nothing for their souls is done. HMMMMM, can we all wonder - Why?
