WARNING to all Freepers - I have not seen a thread on this virus which will release on April 1st. The IT people at my wife's org have been working like mad to protect systems for 10,000 computers and servers. See the following.
There has been significant media attention to the latest variant of the Conficker worm. This variant has the potential to download fresh virus code on April 1st from what security researchers have been able to glean from studying the virus files. This means that any machine that is infected may download new malicious code on April 1st from the websites controlled by the virus author.
The best defence is to have your anti-virus software installed and up to date.
Panicking, shrieking, fearful for my... what.... Not for OS X? Oh drat... Nevermind.
like so many other scare tactics, I am calling this threat BS and a ploy by antivirus companies to spur sales. And if true, then let the web go black. That might help get people pissed off at Obama and blame him for the attack. :P
You mean your search missed All six of these?
If hackers were really smart, they would embed the malicious code into a ‘post’ or ‘comment’ on forums and blogs.
And Barry will be OofC this week. Interesting.
BTW: thinks there a chance the British might keep him?
“Will trade POTUS for working DVDs.”
We're a mixed OS-X and Linux house. Only one token system left running XP. That's just because my Garmin GPS software needs it - for now, and the DSL modem/router updates come as a windows exe. (about time to switch modems/routers to one that can update over the net)
Avast antivirus is free and windows defender anti spyware/malware is free, both update automatically and run in the background.
Make sure windows is automatically updated.
Two programs that you have to update and scan with yourself (the free versions)but that will really scrub your system are malwarebytes antimalware and SUPER antispyware, running those two right after you do an avast antivirus scan should get you ready for April first.
My son (computer company) sent me this link.....it might help everyone who needs it. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS08-067.mspx
izzy - thanks for that. I look at the site in the morning and evening and ususally see 90% of the business and news threads. So after looking for the morning and not seeing anything I did a post - my bad.
You hear so many things and it gets confusing.
I have an 8 year old computer running Windows XP SP1, use Firefox (the updated browser) and have AVG and Avira Free edition on my system.
We have IE version 6 but never use it.
