GM went to the government, not vice versa. Bailout funds can come with strings just like any other investor that saves a company, they get to call some shots to affect the investment. Bush did the same with AIG CEO Robert Willumstad last September.

GM has lost over $80 billion in the last three years and 95 percent of its total value since CEO Wagoner took the reins in 2000.

Do you honestly think firing this guy as a condition of taking OUR money is a facist move? I don’t think so, I think like Bush’s firing of AIG’s Willumstad, it isn’t facist, it’s prudent.

GM came to Obama because of the unions. This is all a charade, and the UAW will be greatly rewarded for all of this, as will Wagoner, who will go off into the sunset a very rich man.

Wake up, America.

Interesting observations.

What's distressing to me is that people across this country with little background in history simply like the idea of the government taking over everything and running it. THAT is the thing we should be wary of whoever does it. But these companies are going to Uncle Sam with hands out, so if such a situation occurs, the government shouldn't be some ATM that just spits out money, which is subsequently squandered.

This isn't something I like happening, but at the same time, while we're all defending capitalism, it's these "capitalist" bigwigs in corporations who are trying to sign up for welfare. If THEY don't care about the consequences of trying to grab that government cash, I couldn't care less if they hold their jobs.

I wish we'd stopped this trend long ago, but now companies think they can just run to the government for money, and the problem is we now have a government that's interested in taking them up on the offer because they can get their foot in the door and take over industries.

Now that this trend has started, I don't see it stopping. If capitalism is collapsing in this country, I've got news for ya--it ain't just Obama and the leftists who're killing it, it's these "capitalists" people like us have been defending. When the chips are down, they suddenly turn into collectivists, "If we fail, the dominoes will fall and hurt YOU, so fork over the cash" being their new "The business of America IS business."

Thanks for the sanity! You've saved me the trouble of pointing out the same things I would have. Both guys deserve to fall on their swords. AIG was smoke and mirrors accounting; GM is a dinosaur that has refused to evolve in response to global competition.

Now that we're out of power, a lot of Freepers are taking us to the level of DU creeps.

Actually yes.

It is the very definition of.

Entwining government and private industry is opening the door wide open for more of the same. Like socialism, once some is applied it always takes more to fix the consequences of what came before. It doesn't end until everything is consumed by it.

Open the door and reap the whirlwind...

Intentions don't change the result.
