Obama to Sign Lands Bill Before 5 Days of Comment
The Washington Times ^ | March 30, 2009 | Stephen Dinan

President Obama on Monday will sign the omnibus land conservation bill - yet again breaking his vow to allow five days for public comment before he affixes his signature to legislation.

The bill passed the House on Wednesday, but the White House didn't post the measure for comments until Friday, leaving just two weekend days and parts of Friday and Monday for the public to register comments - short of the president's five-day pledge. The bill was posted for only several hours before the White House announced that Mr. Obama would sign it, indicating the president had made up his mind well before many comments could have been submitted.

The White House said issues are still being worked out with the five-day policy and that the president's scheduled departure Tuesday to London for a meeting with world leaders makes it necessary to short-circuit things this time.

"In most cases, we have posted legislation with five days' notice. We are working to resolve a few issues with the congressional calendar, and in this instance, in light of the president's international trip, the bill will be signed before departure," said spokesman Ben LaBolt, who vowed that the administration intends to live up to the policy.

"We will continue to post legislation on our Web site for comment as it moves through Congress, and plan to have the full policy implemented in the coming weeks," he said.

The land bill has taken a convoluted path to the president's desk, and Republican critics said Mr. Obama's failure to wait is simply the latest procedurally dubious step in a Democratic effort to jam through a controversial bill.

Some Information from the site of Senator Coburn:

• The bill blocks the development of both renewable and oil and gas energy resources. One bill in the package locks up at least 8.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and more 300 million barrels of oil in a single field, which is equal to nearly twice as much natural gas as all American homes use in a year.

• The bill includes 92 National Wild and Scenic River designations covering 1,100 miles that will prohibit any pipeline or transmission crossing.

• In 19 cases, the bill permanently withdraws federal lands from future mineral and geothermal leasing.

• Since the Senate last considered the lands bill, Secretary Salazar has withdrawn major energy leases in Utah (77) and Wyoming (8) that were the subject of a coordinated lawsuit brought by extreme anti-energy groups. Secretary Salazar specifically delayed offshore drilling and the development of oil shale.

Examples of wasteful spending and egregious earmarks:

• An estimated $1 billion for a water project in California for the restoration of 500 salmon.
• $3.5 million to celebrate the 450th Anniversary of St Augustine, Florida in 2015.

• $250,000 for the Park Service to study whether Alexander Hamilton’s boyhood estate at St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands is suitable for designation as a new National Park unit.

• $5 million for the National Tropical Botanical Garden to operate and maintain gardens in Hawaii and Florida.

• A new ocean exploration program that is tasked with conducting “scientific voyages to locate, define, and document historic shipwrecks.”

Apparently, Presidential pens don't work outside of the U. S. Either that, or Team Obama assumes all the American people are dumb as rocks.

Oh brilliant! Must be part of Obama's plan to become independent of foreign energy by being becoming more dependent it. Obama is just smarter than the average man who doesn't understand this logic.

Based upon reading every post I could find since Aug 22, when Berg filed his first lawsuit, I have concluded the following:

Biden would NOT be President after the Supremes finally decide that NObama was not born in the USA, and therefore, Nobama is not eligible to be President.
Since Biden was a CHOSEN VP candidate by NObama and the DNC, he was NOT selected by the people. Our election process does not say “the person who gets the 2nd highest ## of votes shall be the VP candidate”.
Therefore, Biden ran on a joint ticket with a person who is not eligible. Biden is also out of the job. There would have to be another election for President and VP, and I don’t know the exact replacement who would serve in a temporary basis as President.
When NObama is declared not eligible, you are correct—everything he has signed would be declared Null & Void. He had no right to sign anything in the first place. NObama is an imposter as President.

Transparency only matters for what he deems to be non-urgent bills. Non-urgent bills will end up being every bill during this administration. The public’s being played for fools.

Probably your ability to purchase food. I don’t know about the bill but I do know that thr EPA has come out with more stricter regulations on farmers. One is they have to cut down on dust. Another is, particularly in Hillsborough County Florida they cannot spray within 200 feet of their property line and within 600 feet of a school or where children are.

Another bill that is ether in or has passed the House outlaws backyard gardening.

But again, to answer your question, working with the other laws and regultions that either will or have been enacted, probably all of your freedoms.

That was the purpose of installing obama as president, Conservativegreatr grandma.

I just did realize that he would have as much support from the American idiots that he does. But I am not surprised.
