Avoiding Obama Derangement Syndrome

It is no secret that the Republican Party and the conservative movement have been floundering since their trouncing in the last election. But, in the past few days some conservative posts and the formation of a new group indicate that a more nuanced conservatism may be emerging from the ashes.

First, I recommend reading David Horowitz’s essay today on Frontpagemag.com, in which he comments on “Obama Derangement Syndrome,” and warns conservatives on replicating the kind of virulent Bush hatred that spewed forth from the mouths of liberals during the past eight years. As Horowitz points out, in foreign policy at least, Obama is carrying out the Bush policies in both Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iran, he has made it clear during the past few days, through both Richard Holbrooke and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, that sanctions against Iran will be increased, and that negotiations in a meaningful sense will not take place. “We are not,” Horowitz writes, “witnessing the coming of the anti-Christ.”

Writing in The National Post of Canada, David Frum continues to explain how and why he differs from Rush Limbaugh, and to delineate the nature of the conservatism he thinks can have a broad appeal and continue to grow...

Rush would have been better of to say something to the effect of “Whether I want Obama to fail or succeed is irrelevant. We all know that Socialism always fails, no matter what we want or wish. Failure is inevitable.”

“We are not,” Horowitz writes, “witnessing the coming of the anti-Christ.”

Many disagree.

I think one thing we should be clear on when “defining” conservatism is that criticising Obama is not, in and of itself, “Obama Derangement Syndrome.”

This article needs a barf alert. These are just the sort of spineless republicans responsible for our loss in November. Time to clean house!

Obama is as bad as we’ve been saying. Only those taken in by his lies and evasions are the deranged ones.

I agree with Horowitz.

Of course criticism of Obama isn’t Obama Derangement Syndrome. We need to be right on his heels for the next 4 years, criticizing what he’s doing wrong. But at the same time, we can’t get distracted by nonsense like the whole certifitruther controversy.

Anyone who does not fear what is happening to our country is an idiot. That pretty much accounts for the 50 million or so who voted for this man. It is not a derangement syndrome to fear, or be aware of, that which is dangerous.

I agree. Unfortunately, I'm detecting in outlets like Pajamas Media, as well as folks like David Frum, a tendency towards the spineless - any forceful opposition to Obama constitutes ODS, so we have to "redefine" a softer, nicer conservatism. We need to oppose Obama at every turn, as forcefully as we can, because we have truth and reason on our side. We need to do so because Obama is wrong - flat, simply, undeniably wrong - in the things he and his cohorts are trying to do. They will destroy the country if left unhindered. Rush is right - I want Obama to fail too, because Obama is trying to destroy our constitutional, capitalistic, politically-free system of government and life, and I hope and pray that his efforts fail miserably.

Won't happen, though, if conservatives get suckered into the David Frum approach of playing footsie with a guy who really is trying to change America at its core.

Maybe we should just be concerned solely with being truthful and accurate as best we can-and then after that, the hell with it. We’re way too concerned about being “nice-nelly” with these guttersnipes. How is bringing up the birth cert. issue-in any way-some big crime? If the shoe was on the other foot-well, it wouldn’t be. They’d have been on it, and the GOP’d fold like an accordion.

The ‘Rats and libs were far worse-with far less cause to be, IMHO. They won control of the White House and Congress, and with no penalty for their actions.

McCain and Dubya each got played like fiddles-Dubya for 8 years—God forbid we bring up the Birth cert. last freaking year-or the VIDEOTAPE of Wrong Way Wright, the Ayers thing, etc.

Yeah, yeah, I know-the media was in the tank for Liver lips—there’s a newsflash-what next. “Sun sets in west tonight?”

How come the GOP still couldn’t do something?-they misused the assets they did have. Why didn’t Princess Meghan drop the chalupa and work her magic with the young voters like she now claims she can-months after the election is over with?

“Better dead than rude”-the hell with that.

I have already tried to coin the term Obama Derangement Syndrome.

It has nothing to do with conservatives. Rather, it is the condition which afflicts those liberals who can only see good in Obama, no matter what.

When style editors gush about Michelle’s style - ODS.

When journalists write about His pecs - ODS.

That tingle in Chrissy’s leg - ODS.

When Olberman wonders aloud what can be done to cover up His Leno gaffe - ODS.

Spread the word, ODS is the exact opposite of BDS, it seems that only liberals are mentally weak enough to become afflicted.

LOL! We may need some cryptozoologists or the Art Bell crowd to way in on identifying the monster. The verdict's not in yet. Still too early to rule anything out.

It may be a mistake to think conservatives are overreacting.

I don’t see it as derangement syndrome..... more like payback for the way President Bush was treated by the left.

David Horowitz is an agnostic. He has no clue and does not care about an anti Christ. He has no opinion on that. That said, Obama is a good idea of what to look for whether he is or isn't.

It is easy to understand why many think him so. All in all, he will cause misery and steal our freedom.

Definitely anti American.
