Gingrich Warns of Conservative 3rd Party in 2012

Friday, April 3, 2009 8:53 AM

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warns that conservatives could leave the GOP and form a third party in 2012 if Republicans don’t do more to rein in government spending.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012, Gingrich said during an address to students at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri.

I'm just one aging guy in flyover who's tried to be as optimistic as possible for as long as possible, mainly for the sake of wife/daughters and their futures, but at this point the prospects of reversing this CF w/o bloodshed seem very very small.

Under the current rules, and with the current personalities, the GOP is just as likely to nominate another RINO in 2012.

The RINO element hasn’t had the good grace to step aside since the 08 debacle. The open primaries and likely liberal interlopers in the selection process will really tilt the 12 convention to the “moderates”, maybe McCain will be renominated.

Unless the Republicans change the rules, score decisive victories especially in the 2008 primaries against McCain and Specter, Gingrich may be prophetic here.

Newt sold the “conservatives” down the river when he did that disgusting press opportunity with Bill Clinton, to show that Newt was “just a regular guy”. Newt felt he had to make nice with BJ Clinton because the media had painted him and all conservatives as devils with horns. That was a HUGE mistake and the END of Mr. Gingrich.

A Conservative third party would never win the presidency, and practically guarantee the Democrats wining every time by splitting the center right vote between the GOP candidate and the Third Party candidate.

Now a third party that focused on only wining seats in the house and senate would be far more effective. Say a well funded and non fringe conservative third party were to develop and take say 100 House Seats and 9-10 senate seats. This would give a third party a tremendous amount of power as the two major parties would need the third party votes in order to pass legislation. The third party could leverage this to demand a conservative direction in legislation, especially in the house.

But this party would have to be well financed (at least $250 million in revenue), and have to be able to attract exceptional talent. No third party has ever came close to accomplishing this.

The US Constitution has been hijacked: the 2-party system or another party in the system won’t solve this mess.

EU and Nato and China are not going to support Obongo, so the rest of the world of allies and trade partners will drift along into their own self serving agendas, while the Resident has the ability to rule by fiat within the US. He will crush dissent ruthlessly, build socialism and nationalist control, consolidating his power base and eliminating opposition. Expect gun ban by executive order soon, and national service corps (ss), both by summer. Caps on salary by year end (min-wage up, new max-wage down).

The only difficult he will run into, if there is no anarchic backlash, is he will soon run out of other people’s money.

I'm all for a third Party.
Choosing between Democrat or Republican is no choice at all.
I want term limits for all representatives of the PEOPLE in both Houses. That includes the existing term limits for the president. Which I understand that the Democratic Party lead Congress is seeking to change.
I say ride all those in D.C. supposedly representing the PEOPLE of this nation out of D.C. on a rail after we tar and feather them.

The ‘Upper Crust’ - like the ‘lower’; is living it’s scare. That said; a ‘third Party’ would be the end of ‘all good men’. NO Way; IMHO; can this serve Republicans or any of America’s ‘good citizens’.

In this day and time we need as a whole to distance ourselves from the GOP and come up and out with a truly conservative party. The problem with the GOP is you have the main street and the wall street branches of the same party. Ronny R. was a main street and G. Bush was a wall street republican. This nation need to be returned to it right full owners and that is the public not wall street not special interest, but the every day person and the only way that your going to get that is to take the power of the purse out of the hands of a select few and back into the hands of the many. No more Omnibus bills out law them debate every thing in the budget bring it out into the open let the public see what is going on and we will quickly see who is for the people and who are for the select few of wall street and special interests.

Am thinking that we cannot even be sure that there will be an Election. . .

It has come to this. Better folks; we had suffered with McCain. . .better, the 'sit-on-hands' Repubs had not; for Congressional Elections. But; since we do not have wings. . .here we are; and have to deal with it; and work and 'determine' that there is a way out. Think a 'Third Party' the worst possible option as 'solution'.

Won't work with me either. I have written and told them so. Action is what I want to see, and thus far I have not, not on any large scale. Instead I see Romney out there praising Obama.

I want to see the Republicans stating the fact that what Zero is doing is unconstitutional, and stating it in no uncertain terms! And I want them naming names, stopping this nonsense. In fact it should never have gotten this far, but it did. They need to become masters of obstruction, and get voter photo ID at the polls passed yesterday!

They also need to stop cowering from name calling and threats.

In not too many years there will be two parties - the Democrats, and their spinoff, the Partidad de la Raza.

Republicans will be a mere historical footnote, contributors to their own demise.

After amnesty and a new wave of millions of Latino immigrants (no longer illegal) there will come a point when the Hispanic demographic reaches 51%. At that time they will find they no longer need the Democrat party, they can run the country all by themselves. The irony is that first the Republicans, with their RINO pandering to Hispanics, and then the Democrats will have brought about their own downfall.

Of course the America that then results will be more like Argentina, no longer a world power and tottering between a socialist democracy and a military junta as the Latino culture prevails.

Nations die from within. You are seeing it happen here.

Yes, but a charismatic truthful conservative could “teach” them out of their stupor! Reagan did, just but talking common sense and pride in themselves and their country.

You said — Yes, but a charismatic truthful conservative could “teach” them out of their stupor! Reagan did, just but talking common sense and pride in themselves and their country.

Certainly... it would require someone of the stature of a “Reagan”. Can we ever get someone like that again?
