Should President Obama have the power to shut down domestic Internet traffic during a state of emergency?
Senators John Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) think so. On Wednesday they introduced a bill to establish the Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor—an arm of the executive branch that would have vast power to monitor and control Internet traffic to protect against threats to critical cyber infrastructure. That broad power is rattling some civil libertarians.

These people prove themselve sinsane time after time.
Not a good idea with this bunch. They seem to have a penchant for proclaiming anything they don’t like a crisis. Health care crisis, global warming crisis, etc. None of these is really a crisis, but it is all about seizing power.
I fear as soon as Obama loses popularity, they will “discover” a threat to vital information systems and say they need to shut down internet dissent.

Taking out our communication links is one of the worst things to do in any kind of emergency.
I guess it goes without saying that this proposal is completely unconstitutional. They won't stop at controlling the Internet in a “emergency” they will find a way to do it right now once this passes. After all, everyday is an emergency to Rahm and 0.

Well..., this increased monitoring of all the citizens of this country has been growing for a long time, and *especially so* since the 9/11 attack. That should be obvious to anyone.
It looks like we’re well on the way to being monitored and tracked and controlled just like the Bible indicates is going to soon be happening in the world. This sort of thing hasn’t been surprising to Christians who know what the Bible says about it (even if it is still a disturbing thing...)...
These people don’t believe this contry belongs to the people.

Not only that — but during a real crisis, you WANT news to spread. I recall trying to reach foxnews.com, cnn.com, abcnews.com, ... anything....during 9/11.
