These car manufactures used to be American icons that Americans used to proud of.

I don't think they should be bailed out by taxpayers but I am surprised how many would say to hell with them so easily.

A good part of their failure is due to the US government and other nefarious organisms that have bled them to a point of not being able to compete in the market place and some see it fit to cheering it on.

Oh well, it's just another piece of American culture and what she stands for down the RAT hole, no biggie.

My favorite MOPAR. 1964 Plymouth Hemi. Would turn the 1/4 in the 12's off the showroom floor with a set of slicks & headers

These dishonest people like Carl Rove and Rush & Hannity and the politicos know about the only way to bail out the automakers would be to have a fair trade were foriegn makers had to pay a tax to sell there cars in this country

like we have to in order to sell in their countries. But they don't care.

These men call themselves conservatives and care nothing of the growing military threat of China and it's alliance with Russia.

They don't care the we will have no Steel and industrial strength left to defend ourselves from a Chinese attack once they destroy General Motors and the rest of the auto industry. And they don't care.

No bankruptcy can General Motors bring wages as low as Korea's or China or allow them to compete against German and Japanese cars brought in our country (tax free,) while the taxes double the cost of the few cars we export and to them.

All the car companies need are loan guarantees for daily operating capital.

Etc. and a tax on imported autos as they do on our auto exports.

I once owned a Dodge truck. When it was damaged in a wreck, correct interior replacement parts COULD NOT be bought! Why install them in manufacturing, if they can’t be bought later?

1964 Plymouth Hemi.

Back when 'Hemi' was more than just a marketing scam.

Where were these guys when we needed to save Studebaker?

Studebaker's demise is a very interesting story. Obviously, it involved multiple variables, but the way I read it is that the real reason management threw in the towel was to avoid paying unfunded pension commitments.

In spite of some bad decisions that hurt the company, Studebaker was sufficiently viable to continue. But sacrifices would have to be made to honor the pension obligations. And it was deemed more expedient to quit then, shaft the retirees and keep the bucks.

It has been a while since I read up on this, so I could be shown to be wrong. But that's the way I remember it.

My dog loves to go for rides in the Jeep. It's a match made in heaven.

Jeep is an American icon. There is nothing quite like the Jeep Wrangler. I imagine that is one car the leftists hate the most and would like to go away - it is both an SUV and an American symbol. I’m sure our neo-communists hate that.

"replacement parts COULD NOT be bought!"

I think there is legislation mandating that service parts be available for 10 yr after the original veh. mfg. date.

A difference?

GM has big brother aboard 24/7/365 with OnStar.

Is that significant enough?

Oh, and Ford has vehicles I actually like, with things like the door lock knobs out of the way, comfortable seating, and are reliable.
